The game seems to have three difficulty levels: novice, tough and super. _________________ |

Does it? How do you get those, then?
Anyone have a full set of instructions, while I'm about it? _________________

On the title-screen, press F3. Then F5 toggles the difficulty level. The default level is novice.
The Remember version includes the docs but sadly there's no text file.
I had a quick go and I couldn't really understand what I was doing but it seems the purpose is to "construct" squares by turning the lines? _________________

Ok, these look like some instructions for some Apple version of the game. They seem to be relevant enough to the game I'm playing to help out a bit:
http://apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/Docs/Drelbs.txt
I'm just not getting this F3/F5 thing, tho. What version are you playing, RF? _________________ Hey, you. Dumbass. Yeah, you in the tank. Cosy in there? |

Silly me, I guess you're playing the Remember version I'll go and get that.
<rummage..... google... etc....>
OK, I've found the Remember version here:
http://noname.c64.org/csdb/rel...p?id=40852
It seems the F3/F5 keys don't work on the title screen, you have to press F3 whilst you are playing the game, then press F5 to alter your level and F7 to restart the game at your chosen level.
What level do y'all think we should play at? I'm looking for people who have played the game a bunch, since I'm a Drelbs n00b. As I understand it there are a limited number of levels, right? Anyone know what happens when you complete all the levels? Does the game end, or loop? _________________ Hey, you. Dumbass. Yeah, you in the tank. Cosy in there? |

I'm playing without modifying any settings. What a weird game. The bonus screen gets slow if you keep freeing Drelbs (which makes it doable).
What's also weird, that is the exact same music that's playing in the game Big Ben?

Here's one from me, without any modifications.

Btw, I'd advise against using the Remember version. It crashed on me. _________________ |

Ok, no complaints about NOVICE mode, and it seems like the game wants us to play it anyway (since it's hidden all the other modes away so carefully!), so that's what we'll play this month. Playing NOVICE also avoids the problem of people accidentally not remembering to change the mode of the game when they boot it up.
I've just played all the way through to the end with the trainers, and you should all be aware: During the 'end game' sequence, your score will tick up and up and up, and you'll be tempted to wait for it to finish. DON'T... when your score finishes increasing you'll be returned to the title screen with no way of seeing what your final score was. Take your screenshot early, and we'll be able to calculate what your final score is. _________________ Hey, you. Dumbass. Yeah, you in the tank. Cosy in there? |

Hmm. On the other hand, it's Wednesday, and I've just got to level 7 (of 8)...
68,330 - NOVICE
Change of plan, then. We'll run TWO scoretables this month, one for NOVICE mode, and one for SUPER mode (which is the hardest difficulty level... intermediate difficulty is called TOUGH). Each scoretable will be scored out of 100, and then we'll add the points from both these tables together and halve them, so each player has a score out of 100 going through to the Games Competition Leaderboard. Any player who completes NOVICE mode will automatically gain maximum points for that scoretable... but the SUPER scoretable will score as normal.
So! Henceforth, please post the level on which you achieve your submitted scores. _________________

Colour me surprised. This is an excellent little game, very addictive and with frenetic gameplay. _________________ |

I'm moving house this week btw, god alone knows when I'll be able to be online again, or indeed if I'll have the internet sorted (as promised) when I move into my new place, so, y'all keep things ticking over if you don't see me, capiche? _________________ Hey, you. Wow, this is my first time playing this game and I'm really liking it. But I don't know how you guys are getting those great scores! I'm having a hard time getting over 20,0000 consistently. _________________ |

Yeah - this is tougher than I thought. Round 2 is already a hurdle in Novice. Barely managing it.

Through this competition I've found out I really like this game. It's addictive. I love the instructions. They're hilarious. A 2-screen game about forming squares and dodging bullets and the instructions mention things like "dark corridor", "drelbish window", and "gorgolyte." For example:
| Quote: | | After all the enslaved drelbs are freed, you will discover the secret of the mystery lady. |
I was wondering, though, after all 8 levels, is there an end screen, or does it repeat?
So far my highscore is 37,510 on novice, but I think I can best that. |
