12950... not a screendumpworthy score Smile.

So no extra lives at all? I thought it was just that the indestructible don't score any points? I think it can get quite hard that way...

You can still get extra lives from the flying skulls, just not by earning points. Got 20K+ earlier, must have a couple more goes to get back in the groove...

I'm using VICE. Anyone got any better suggestions on how to do a screen dump?

And by collecting X-bricks! Wink

So what else is different in the competition edition?

No score from indestructible blocks and no score based extra lives, plus different color in score. Nothing else. Cracked from tape, no extra cheats.

And that the purple ball will be pretty decisive in this round's scores Smile

I came into level 28 with 5 lives, picked the wrong skull which turned all the indestructible blocks into goo and got eaten.. RIP

Though you're scoring not bad, mate Very Happy

I just made 39'800 in the office without joystick and will possibly improve this evening at home by playing with a joystick.

The blue ball-eater will beat many of us, you're right Wink

New Krakout hi-score for me - 28,360.

I'm using a joypad on VICE to play it. Are you guys finding it better to play on a different emulator with a joystick?

I always play with keyboard. Both on CCS64 as well as WinVice (which is my current choice).

132.640

In the screen where the blue ball first appears you can also get the glue powerup. If you have it just keep the ball glued once the blue ball eating monster appears. It will either be destroyed by colliding with another enemy or it will turn into a football after a while.

Edit: i have no clue why the screenshot does not work. I will just post a better score i guess Smile

Edit2: Getting a better score is easier said than done so i fixed the screenshot Smile

Here's my best result until now. You see my ball being eaten from the blue bastard, so I wasted my last life at Level 23

Btw for those who do not know or have not noticed yet:

The only way to get extra lifes is by shooting blocks marked "X". They always appear in the same levels, for example the in one where the blocks are shaped like a man.
The flying skulls that used to give you extra lifes do not because they just give you 10k points and extra lifes by points is disabled. The points still make them worth getting of course.
One of the more important powerups for the competition is the upside down "?". If you hit it your scoring doubles for the remainder of that level. This includes scoring from the flying skulls so you can get 20k from some of them.

Question: How do you overcome the flying missile things that you see on the earlier levels? When I get hit by one I am essentially "stunned" and immovable. Is there anything you can do about it?

Cheers,
Dynamite

The upside-down ? is actually "x2", meaning double points. You CAN still get extra lives from the skulls in the competition edition, I know because I've done it.

Dynamite, if you collect the "D" power up, you get a double bat which protects against the metal flies.

My new score: 50200
