Finally got around to watching The Crazies. (haven't seen the original). Like it. Very well made for a non-megabucks movie, Oliphant and Mitchell are good actors. Standardish all the small town locals go mental fare mind you.
7/10 from me!

Should've put this into my last post, but watched Alien on Channel 4 last night. Haven't seen this since I was a teenager (ie. in a LONG time) and so was just as thrilled as I was back then. Made me jump on several occasions and where I couldn't remember what was coming the suspense was still there!

A classic in every way. And after watching Prometheus, even more enjoyable!

Went to see Promentheus again on Thursday.

But then, finally, the best movie ever made (it's my fave, other movies are available lol) was rereleased on Friday:

JAWS

It was absolutely fantastic seeing it on the big screen! Spielberg has done such a great job at restoring it, it looks brand new! Much better than the previous DVD restorations which weren't done by him. They were really good in picture quality but his is even better, and he's fixed some of the stupid sound decisions they made on the DVDs. Loved every second!

My favourite thing though was seeing people jump at the right times, hearing them laugh at the characters, women cowering when it built up to an attack or, in particular, the cage attack was happening, and just everyone just really getting into it. Yes it's a big fake shark, but I think the first time anyone sees it they get sucked in by it, no matter how far we've come since. Plus, there's just something about having it THERE instead of your brain separating the CGI from the actors.

Highly recommend it beyond anything! It's been my favourite movie for about 20 years and I'm sure will continue to be for another 20 more Very Happy

A Thousand Words 9/10

Saw Eddie Murphy's latest, it's as good as all his past good films I've enjoyed. He was really on top form and I enjoyed this strange and silly story from start to end. Murphy is classic cheeky mad as a hatter Murphy, if you're looking for a comedy then give this a try.

(unless you don't like Eddie Murphy!!)

I was watching Holy Man the other day, which is one of my favourite Eddie Murphy films. Boomerang and Trading Places are also good.

Prometheus 3D

Mixed reviews so was not expecting much, but I came out happy. Enjoyed the film a lot - slow build up was good. Some niggly things, but nothing that ruined my enjoyment.

8/10

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Seen this a few times and it still stands up well to repeated viewings. I love the original but this is one hell of a great remake. Right through to the end credits.

8/10

Iron Sky
Great B-movie stuff, Nazis on the moon invading earth. Some woeful acting, but hard to describe as cheap exactly. Highly entertaining all the same, especially president Palin. Laughing (7/10)

War Of The Dead
Another Finnish movie about Nazis... they must have a complex or something. Nazis make zombies in Finland in 1945... for no apparent reason a few US soldiers are thrown in the mix. Fast dumb zombies, for those who know what that means. Alright, not much too it. (6/10)

Chronicles Of Riddick
Dunno what took me so long to get around to this 2004 movie, but I loved it. Riddick kicks ass, and the enemies are right nasties as they should be. And excellent far future setting too, which you don't see much of. (8/10)

Osombie
Oh Jesus, where to start with this one... Maybe I shouldn't have started... Osama Bin Laden injects himself with homebrew chemical weapons and unleashes a zombie horde on the unsuspecting locals and US troops. Awful stuff. Even takes itself seriously with loads of cringeworthy 9/11 references. (3/10)

Watched Project X last night, pretty damn funny. If your looking for something to make you smile with plenty of boobies then I'd recommend it.

Where would you rate Prometheus? Not seen it yet but here is my rating-

1 Alien
2 Aliens (bit too Mrs Rambo) & Alien 4 (Ron Perlman and guns!) tied in 2nd place
3 Alien 3

I believe that was the point. No one had really seen a Mrs Rambo-type female warrior on the big screen yet in this kind of manner, so this was pretty much a precedent. Most of the screen were generally taken up before then by lots of testoterone, and sometimes steroids. Anyway I remember the press talking it up and Siggy became even more popular in the mid 80's (Ghostbusters, etc kinda helped her too I suppose).

I despise everything about Alien 4 - awful awful awful - that stupid ending too. Grrrr.

I do like Aliens - great characters and good dialogue. Prometheus is more in the style of the original Alien (in my opinion) rather than an all out shooter. If you like that you should enjoy it.

I loved Aliens, very different from the creepy, scary original, but it still had its suspense and jumps amongst the action and all first three Alien films concentrated very much on characters which made them stand out for me. I really liked Alien 3, but I still hate the fact they killed off the two characters Ripley spent the second film rescuing! Why not just eject her pod and let them continue on home? Apart from that, it was a very, very good film! Back to being creepy and one alien being enough to kill everyone, brilliant stuff.

Anyway, I'd rate them like this:

1 - Aliens
2 - Alien and Prometheus (I just can't rate one above the other lol)
3 - Alien 3

I believe that was the point of Alien 3, i.e. pain & suffering, or at least more of it. Ripley finally gets [another] sigh of relief after ridding the alien hordes as well as big mother, saving her last 3 friends, then back into panty-mode in hiber-stasis. But of course, she crash-lands onto a penal planet, losing friends, almost raped, more death & destruction. The prisoners themselves thematically have pain & suffering, religiously, both for her and for the prisoners' Christian salvation. She does have a card up her sleeve this time. The whole movie was about redemption. Ripley kinda resembles Christ as she finally does her final sacrifice to save the universe from more aliens, keeping it away from the Company, at least at that time (until Alien 4 centuries later of course). There wouldn't be anymore need sequels after Aliens if she was to continue happily on home. The script was there because fans wanted another movie with Siggy happily signing on as co-producer. Despite the glass-half-empty mood of the movie that critics hated, I also liked this movie. I was also happy to see her back again with Cameron on Avatar.

I agree but it wasn't Ripley that I wanted to carry on home, just Newt and Hicks. When the ship detected Ripley had been infected it could've ejected her and sent Newt and Hicks home safe. We'd still have Ripley on the penal colony, separated from the only two friends left in her life, and kind of having lost her second chance at having a daughter (after she'd outlived her own daughter at the beginning of the second film). We'd still have got all the despair etc without needlessly killing the other two.

I dunno about the parallels with the bible's stories but everyone can take from films what they wish Smile

I still loved it though, despite my gripe.

That wasn't just your gripe, I recall a lot of critics/fans/viewers were up in arms that Hicks and Newt died in vain and that Bishop was almost destroyed (although Lance gets to play another role here), not to mention Siggy's bold new bald headed look which no has ever seen before. In fact, Michael Bienh and James Cameron were two of the complainers. Who knows why they did this, perhaps it was to kill off characters that were uneccessary. The production was difficult from the start. Lots and lots of different writers and re-writes. I do recall Siggy also just wanted to be done with the Alien franchise due to some conflict during Aliens production, but of course, fans wanted more movies. And yeah, I'm almost pretty sure there were biblical parallels in this one, the prisoners spiritual conflicts were a big hint. Heck, if you wanted to stretch it some some, you could say the real Bishop was Lucifer, begging Ripley (Christ) to give him the alien (temptation). Just as in the Bible, temptation is overcome, bringing salvation to all, heh. And it looks like they designed it so that the entire cryo-hibernation stasis chamber be as one lifeboat instead of each stasis pod separately launching which would thwart your wish of Hicks+Newt going home safely. It is what it is. RT gives 43%.

As I've said here before, I have not seen Alien 4: Resurrection (see that biblical reference again, heh?) since it came out. I guess it's time to see it again, no matter how smelly it may be. I think I'll watch Alien 3 as well, been a long time too.

I live on a boat and the 30th of June there's this new bridge for bikes and pedestrians open and they're throwing a big party all day and night.
But the highlight will be is that they show a movie on a big-ass screen, like a drive-in but this time it's for little motorboats only. Guess what's on? Yeah Jaws!
I'm going to watch Jaws sitting in my little motorboat hell yeah i kinda find it a bit scary lol

Ok now I'm jealous on two counts! The fact you live on a boat and the fact you'll be sitting watching Jaws on it at this screening! Very Happy

That'll be a great atmosphere I'm sure!

Here in Belfast we've little boats that give tours of the area where the Titanic and her sister ships were built and a couple of years ago they had all the little boats lined up on the River Lagan, each showing Jaws inside on big TV screens. I missed out on tickets, so make sure you enjoy yourself! Very Happy

I watched this from the time of Season 2, when my nephew lent me Season 1 to watch and said "you will love this!" and I was hooked.

It is one of those shows you can sit and watch back to back and just get engrossed in their world. I hear season 5 is going to be split into two parts, a bit like the Walking Dead did. I hope it goes out with a bang not a whimper. Normally I will wait for all episodes to finish or at least 10 and watch them back to back Smile

Vegas Vacation 7.5/10

Not bad at all, Chevy Chase is still great. Not the 9/10 as good as my favourite in the series, European Vacation, but still worth watching.

Christmas Vacation next on the list (never seen that either).

I love the original myself - awesome film.
