Is it just me, or is this a VERY BAD game?!
Poor collision detection, floating above the ground so you have to crouch to kill things, and then you can't turn around whilst crouching.
Frustrating beyond belief.
I may post a score one day, but didn't enjoy those first few attempts at breaking the 10K barrier (9500 ish only!).
Ah well. There's always next month. Action Biker or Manic Miner anyone? |

Agreed: these controls are incredibly frustrating. Here's an intersting little fact: the latest version of WinVICE has a little thing that tells you what switches are being operated on the "joystick"...handy for when you want to confirm that, for example, you can't turn whilst ducked.
EDIT: don't you just love it when they spawn under your feet? _________________ "If you think that the work security systems still overlook 'pr0n' you're an idiot." |

No, it is just another "favourite" game!
Just a few more months and we will be through Hawkey, Pooyan and the sort as well and start to get into the really interesting games, hehe. But maybe we will have changed the compo by then so that we can play our favourite games over and over again!!!! \o/
Hm, Ghouls n Ghosts is much better than the dreaded Ghosts n Goblins! I think i reached the 4th level back in the days. Let's see if i can finish it this time around. |

Actually, the more I play Ghouls 'n Ghosts, the more I prefer Ghosts 'n Goblins.
Current score: 18650

Right, well so far I've had 3 or so tries and this is what I came up with:
27,850
Okay, now I've played this game a fair bit, gotten very close to completing it at one stage. Here are some answers from one who knows (says he, ever so modest):

Collision detection is usually excessively sensitive, but the same goes for your weaponry, so it evens out in the end. As for turning and crouching, well, you can't in the arcade either and this is an arcade conversion afterall.
@Qazi: The controls for Iridis alpha are pretty horrible too in parts, but you never mention that..
| qazi wrote: | EDIT: don't you just love it when they spawn under your feet? |
It's not that bad. just crouch and shoot. Instead of complaining, feel it out. It's a bit weird at first but where there are problems there are compensations.
| Apollyon wrote: | | No, it is just another "favourite" game! |
I agree. But perhaps more to the point is that it is not at all suited for competition, something that I seem to remember hearing from somewhere. Now we are all going to get stuck on level three, or if you are very lucky level 5 (level 4 is possible, but level 5 is plain impossible, even with the cheat you run out of time before halfway through).
Look, just give it a go. I don't want to play this game in competition, because it will come down to the amount of whoring on the first couple of levels in the end, but these are the breaks, and we may as well enjoy playing a very cool game indeed. _________________

Do you want a pogo-stick to assist you in jumping to conclusions? I never mention that because I don't believe it's true, not because I avoid the issue. _________________

I believe it's true (IA has control problems), just as you believe that GnG has problems to be true. You know, different views and all that sort of thing?
You seem rather quick to complain about this game, I just felt this a bit amusing as you always moan when people complain about stuff that you like.
EDIT: changed my tone a bit. _________________

A lot of good points made in a mature way. I love the game, it's just that I hadn't played G 'n' G in ages and it's taking a while to get used to the awkward controls and enemies spawning under the feet and everything.

I take back my comment about you making points in a mature way. _________________

No, no point whoring, this is not the kind of game I like to waste time in. I think it's due above all to the 5000 points bouns for killing the level bosses, as well as the use of my last three lives repeating the third level killing always the same foes... _________________ |

I'm not sure if this score is usable since it was gained with a bug (but it is *very* likely that Kurisagama and Lasse did the same thing)
56,500
Errm, we might have some issues this competition. I forgot that there is a rather strange bug at the end of the second level boss. If you get up to him and continually shoot his fireballs that he drops (around 15 times I think it is), you will get a huge increase in score. On my version at home, it is possible to hit 1 million points this way (and you get an awful lot of lives to go with it too). I am not sure how or why this works, but it does on most versions.
Secondly, the version we're using seems to have a lot of oddities which I d on't recall occurring on the original. Sometimes when you get hit and die it gives you an extra life for example, I have not been able to figure out what score gives you an extra life, but it must be around the 20,000 mark.
Right, now that I've said that, here is one useful piece of advice - a lot of you will probably have trouble getting past the second last Guillotine before the restart point on the first level, here's how you do it: Run past it and hold left until it falls down (it will just miss you), then while it is down just up to the next platform.
I will do some screenshots of how to get through the third level in a little bit, but I'm tired and hungry for the moment.
EDIT: Just saw Kuri's post. By the way, you couldn't possible have gotten that many points that way, the most points you can earn per life (in hte time limit) is around 7000. _________________ |

Odd. Mabye we should find a bugless version and restart the compo. _________________ |
