Cut my name off cos I err, typed it in wrong. Is there no 'delete' on the highscore table?

Activated world 5 but only spent a very brief time there. I won't spoil it for you Smile

I wonder what happens when you complete all the waves on a world?

I actually did this. I went and cleared out world 1 (only on one plane though, as opposed to the original and the alternate), and it just kept looping the final wave IIRC.

Oh, and congratulations: doubtless you've left me far behind (I hate the bonus levels, but others can do many of them with ease...I can get as far as the black one with the strobing grid lines if my memory serves me correctly...)

Hi guys, noobie here. Very Happy

I've just registered on this (very entertaining) site, and have decided that, as a former decent games player, I'll take up the challenge (must say that I wish I'd found the site earlier, coz I'd have loved to have been involved in the previous games!).

Question Big problem. I appear to have a malfunction on IA, and wondered if anyone else had the same 'feature'. Whenever I press the fire key, it jumps to the status screen. I can only play the game if I press up whenever I want to fire! I've tried reassigning keys, v2 and v3 of CCS64, but no joy. Any ideas?

It's not so bad on the first coupla levels, but when you swap to the bottom screen it's a real pain in the arse Mad !

Anyways, first score was 10120 (I'll post a screenshot when I hopefully can play it properly!).

Cheers guys.

There's just one way to enter the status screen with a joysick button: you plugged the joystick into the wrong port. IA is, as almost every other came out there, controlled with port 2, not 1... Rolling Eyes

Doh! Rolling Eyes

Cheers. I actually had both controllers set to the same keys. No other game has complained so far.

Time to create merry hell! Well, maybe get blown to bits numerous times trying (I never did understand this game, and I'm not much the wiser having read the instructions! Confused ).

Maybe I'll come good in the next round.

Cheers Foo Gen.

Alright Geenius, welcome to the Games Comp. You're joining us at a good time, we've been playing some excellent games this year, and now we've all got the hang of not voting for Pooyan I'm sure we'll be playing many more Smile

I just had a quick troll through the IA thread at the LLamasoft LLeague
http://www.yakyak.org/viewtopi...torder=asc

Didn't find much there, apart from this:

Yes, I stumbled across MIF back when I first started playing (I got IA on a Megatape from a friend without the orignal Zzap! and had to learn the rules of IA myself.) Evidently, I am more hardcore than everyone. Cool

Still get crap scores though. Mad

DNA is just a demo that Yak originally released onto Compunet, along with Taurus/Torus 2 (which features the fractal music generator used on Iridis Alpha's titles page and the plot effect used for the background in Voidrunner and a couple of demos with Gilby in 'em) and you can only change the way the chains of eyes move. Made In France was apparently written on a ski-ing trip and is pretty much based on Minter's own game Deflex and the keys are M and N to lay reflectors with the idea being to bounce the trail of colours into the ball.

Oh and for a little more hardcore IA knowledge, how about these little snippets;

1) To get through the first bonus stage in a hurry, simply hammer up the left side of the map, you'll need to stop and get a run up at one hill but after that it's a straight run through.

2) If you wait for the game to drop to demo mode and drop into pause, it'll "forget" and give you control of Gilby when you unpause and anything that was unlocked for the demo remains active! =-)

I just had a quick blast at the game right the other day and achieved a ludicrously low score (about 2,000 points or so). I found it so confusing it was almost frustrating. I've downloaded the docs, so hopefully I will be able to properly enter the compo in a couple of days. But, anyway, I feel this game doesn't quite convince me... and I tend to like Minter's work...

This has to be one of the most confusing and strangest games I've ever seen. I've read all the comments here, read the instructions and am still lost. Having fun though.

Here's my attempt: 16,100

What are the exact rules on unlocking worlds? I thought you have to complete thee waves on the preceeding planet and the next one gets unlocked. Yesterday i wanted to try and unlock all planets but after completing about 11 waves on each side of planet 3 the next one still didnt get unlocked (the later waves on world 3 get pretty nasty btw...).

Naah, tis much harder than that; You have to complete waves on ALL previous worlds so that the progress bars for each of them extend to the start position for that world. Like this:

World 2: complete 1.2
World 3: complete 1.5, 2.2
World 4: complete 1.8, 2.5, 3.2
World 5: complete 1.11, 2.8, 3.5, 4.2

Change of tactics

229,620 - Everything's getting very surreal this late in the game. And level 1.16 has overload like you would not believe.

I've stopped worrying about where I'm going all the time and just let the warpgate take me where it feels like. I've made a note (I love writing things on paper, me) of difficult waves that I need to watch out for, and check every time I warp if either gilby is going to end up on one of them. Also check my energy bar to make sure it's not too high or too low.

And Lickeys are now my friends. How'd have thunk it? They eat your energy so slowly that I find them very handy for resetting my energy bar at halfway. I'd practice getting away from them before you try this tho Smile

I had another crash yesterday during a bonus wave, so I've started saving my game as I enter them. I did have to restart a bonus wave during this score; I hope y'all don't mind.

It used to crash on my real C64, but that's probably because I was playing the ZZAP! megatape version saved to disk with a Super Snapshot. Haven't seen a crash in Vice yet.

I'm using the original version, from the link in this thread, and CCSv3.0

CCS tends to crash if I switch around between programs when I'm running it, but I've found it stable if I don't.

Occasionally on the bonus screen you can get stuck in the black areas. Usually you can get out of this by firing continually in one direction. But sometimes, when I'm on the extreme left of the screen, this rapid boinging seems to trigger the crash. The whole screen (except the sprites) glitches for a second or two, and then the game locks up.

I've had this a couple of times since the start of this round, and remember it happening every so often before that too.

Updating my personal best, now at 91310

I got up to this stage with these bubbles and I kept overloading. It only took about two shots before Gilby was full of energy!

Real players hang around and blast the crap out of the Iball thingy for a huge "Iball Bonus". Wink

Nah, i remember trying that... the time bonus is far more generous than it's possible to rack up by hanging around to blast the balls since you only get a finite time for blasting - it's only worth doing if you can't short cut the level like i said...

I have never been playing this game before. Thanks a lot for the walkthroughs people have been giving!!! I normaly don't like Jeff Minters games. But this must be his best one.

I have been giving the game about 10 tries and here is my best score:
19'080

I still can't work out the 3rd wave (i.e licker heads) despite trying the shoot the squares and turn the other way and zoom off to aviod the heads. I managed to do it by fluke once and got like 20,000 or so but now all my scores are around 3000.

And it looks like such a wicked game as well Rolling Eyes
