I don't really know what I've got against this game, I just don't enjoy playing it. Maybe I feel let down by it. I like the Zaxxon-like bit and I like the face-off with the five silos and maybe there's a much bigger and better game waiting to be built from just those two sections. The Zaxxon bit probably only lasts about forty seconds and it's the same run in every city (?!). Maybe all multi-part games risk annoying the player if there is even one section they don't like. I don't like the shoot-out in front of the Kremlin and I find the reactor room too difficult.
Hey Macc, you played Galaxy by Kingsoft? Seriously, give it a shot, if you can't get Avenger it has some similarities and could make a good replacement for it. |

I heard this site was giving away free Commodore 64's (and a thousand disks!) if you voted for Crossfire (Sierra) in the game comps. Hey, I just heard it on the grapevine, don't blame me if it's not true. |

I heard a sister site to that one was offering a million disks, sealed copies of Ultima 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 with Richard Garriots autograph, written in gold leaf, plus a SuperCPU and a C65 to anyone who voted for Avenger this round! (well, thats what some bloke told me down the pub anyway!) |

Well I heard (and I didn't say it the first time because some folk might think its made up) that if you voted for Crossfire (Sierra) (and specifically NOT Avenger by Commodre circa 1982 - 82!) you get everything you just said plus a C66 (sure they exist!) and a trillion original disks (sealed!) and ... well what more do you want? That's just greed!
Vote for Crossfire (Sierra) and put a smile on all our faces. |

Well, I heard that anyone attempting to bribe people voting for the next round of the games competition would have all their medals taken away and be thrown into a cave and have to escape it by holding down fire to gauge how far they could jump... _________________ |

I really was going to vote for Crossfire when I read that rumour, Troy. Until I realized that a trillion discs would need app. 1 million cubic meters(m3) of space. My own house is 450 m3, so I would need some extra storage room.
Unfortunately, my wife overheard my phone call, when I was trying to rent Greenland (the cold would keep the discs in good condition I thought), and she convinced me that it wasn't my best idea.
So I voted Paperboy, because I heard about this site that, if you vote Paperboy and it wins, gives you all the discs in the Universe AND free storage!
Now, I just need a disc drive |

I'd like to recommend this fun little game
Retro Torque
It's an overhead, 8-way scrolling, racer. It's got icons scattered around the tracks (nitros, armour, tyres...), shops inbetween levels to upgrade various parts of your bike, lots of different and varied tracks. It's got various hazards on the road, refuel-as-you-go stations, and a damage bar.
It's got nice graphics and plays really well.
It's challenging, especially on later levels.
Did I mention it's got shops?
I really like it, vote for it in the next round! _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

If you really want a shooter, instead, please please please don't vote for Uridium.
How about a round of Parsec?
It's neat and I'd really like a chance to devote time to it.
If it has to be Uridium, at least the + version, not the original. _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

I still fail to see what the problem is with Uridium? Score whoring has been mentioned but I cant see how thats possible, theres the option of just hanging about a level blasting aliens but theres a certain amount of risk involved in doing that imo, or am I missing something glaringly obvious? |

What you're missing is that I don't like the game
I simply find it rather dated and boring, especially the original version with its "Wait for the signal to land" feature.
Other than that, I don't see any problems for a competition based on Uridium. _________________

I won't vote for this ever again.
I wanted to see how many levels there were and I played with infinite lives.
Unless my version is faulty, there's only one level.
Can anybody confirm this?
ETA: it was a faulty copy. If you play with trainers on, completing a level brings you to the endgame sequence. But if you use the levelskipping button during a level, you get to the next one.
There are three proper levels, plus two asteroid-avoiding inbetween them. Level two seems to be nasty and level three nigh on impossible, but of course, playing with trainers on, one can't really tell.
I doubt I will vote for it in the future. Graphics are often really pretty though. _________________

Wow, last time anyone wrote in this thread was July. I guess we've run out of ideas ... or care. Anyway, I've got a new game to push for, Andrew Braybrook's Intensity.
I played this once on a mate's Spectrum for a couple of hours and I really liked it. Played it a couple of times on the 64 but I can't remember what I thought. Anyway, I want to play it just to see if it was any good or not. Even though I hardly ever played it I suspect there was more to it than I ever saw. I think you should just vote for it blind and keep your fingers crossed. That's what I'm going to do. It's unusual if nothing else. It might be great. It might be hateful. No guarantees. It's by Braybrook! (Although he did do Alleykat and I think that's pretty damn poor).
And it looks like Uridium in a screenshot so that should get SLF's vote. |

Sh*t, I forgot about this while in the voting thread.
Never played it before, I'll check it out and see what I think.
The screenshot seems delicious indeed _________________

Never thought of it until today, but Gyruss would make a great compo game if we go for a shooter. |

No it wouldn't. Choice of level, possibility to use the built-in cheat and the sheer difficulty of certain random elements would have us all restarting repeatedly all month... _________________

We did play it in 2003. I personally didn't like that competition much. It got boring in the long run, if memory serves. _________________

You can program the order of the levels... Or give Thalamus a call back in 1987* and activate a variety of cheats.
*in other words, type in the old Thalamus telephone number, changing the last digit for varying effects _________________

You mean the infamous "TNT was here" cheat? _________________
