Ahhh...good old Iwin.
'Twas a horrible hoax aimed primarily at the Amiga community, but they mentioned the C64 in order to mess around with us 8-bit types, too.
Lots of empty promises, some pictures of generic cubicles that could be anyplace, pictures of mugs with their logo that could have been made for $10 at any mall...an elaborate one, but a hoax nonetheless.
Check Google Groups for all the discussions on comp.sys.amiga.misc at the time.
Actually, I like this quote from that newsgroup:

I really don't think "hoax" is quite the right word. "Hoax" implies
"joke". I think if Iwin is not for real then the proper word could be
"fraud". A joke like this is just too improbably expensive. My suspicion
is that Iwin is trying to bootstrap from nothing to a product via a
funding scheme. "Oops, hehheh, slight delay in delivery but we are
taking deposits on the systems in our brochures." Any proof? Nope. Just
deep dark suspicions that evolved from a wait and see attitude I once
had. |
Always a possibility...
