From PDXCUG.org.
I assume this is rare? I really like that you do not need a screen. This would be nice to have. Can it be replicated? _________________ |

It is very possible it could be replicated. |

Nope. As stated, it was on PDXCUG.org. This would be nice to own. Basically, clone really doesn't have to test all chips, just the PLA, ram chips, and a others that seem to have an issue of burning out. I love this one since you don't have to hook a monitor up to it. Easy way to test chips. _________________

My neighbour, who used to repair c64s and Amigas back in the day, reckons he has a c64 version of this in his garage! _________________

Ray Carlson got his hands on these
"...it appears they don't do much more than the cart and harness I'm using now. According to the DIAGNOSE 64 booklet, a certain amount of the computer firmware must be working (CPU, RAM, VIC and PLA) for that diagnostic system to work... which defeats the purpose for me. I'm better off making the diagnosis myself (usually with a 'scope') and then using my cart & harness to "cook" the board afterward to make sure no intermittent problems or marginal components are missed." |

I am borrowing one of these because it doesn't require the video to work. Unlike the diagnostic cartridge and harness, which need the video. I find it very useful in that respect. I'm new to repairing C64 and still learning a lot. So none of these tools is a complete solution, as you have to have some knowledge about interpreting the results of these tools and then diagnosing. For example, someone helped me to trace the problem with the schematic. The problem ended up being the power switch. I have yet to learn how to use a probe or scope. For now, I just started using a multi-meter. But I would like to find one of these Diagnose64 or Diagnose128 to buy as my own. Saw one on Ebay a year and half ago, and didn't have any money to get it at the time, because it was Christmas. |
