|
|
hiya! it's time already for round 6!
the audience decided to have a go on ! needless to say; a true classic!
rules are simple:
 check out the docs!
games compo starts now and will end sunday 6th of july 2003 24h00 PM (GMT)
download here, (release 018) it's the REMEMBER version.
post screenshots with your highest score in this thread.
 don't cheat! (be fair alright?)
this compo gets mentioned at THE SCORELORD pages aswell! thanks Gordon, thanks Boçù!
"the birth of a ", read all about it here.
the Remember version has the option to choose between two versions of : paradroid and paradroid competition (fast). it seems like paradroid and paradroid competition look the same. (they only differ in speed) so you can play either one of them. (thanks funkscientist for pointing that out). does this seems fair to everybody to play one of those two versions, as there is also a paradroid metal version available ( here).
short FAQ:
how do I take a screenshot of my highest score? (ccs64)
when you achieved a score which is worth being mentioned, there's two options:
- press ALT+F1 to save a 16 color bitmap, or
- press ALT+F2 to save a 256 color bitmap.
the screenshots are saved into your ccs64 directory, in both cases you better save the screenshots as a .GIF image, as it takes less space.
I'm not able to post any screenshots over here, what'd I do?
don't panic, there's always an option to send them towards my email address (below). once I got the screenshots, I'll post them as soon as possible.
Okay, I ended up being the true Lemon games-champion, what do I win?
well, nothing, zip, nada. but you will be threated as a champion, make no mistake!
Who will choose the games we play?
you! the games are chosen by voting. each games-voting will last for a week (first or second week of the month) and it's entirely up to you which games will be played in the future.
How long does one specific games-compo last?
one week of voting and three weeks of playing makes that each games-compo will last for exactly one month.
How long does the entire competition last?
the competition started january 2003 and will end december 2003. that makes 12 different games compos. all in order to find out who is the true Lemon Games champion of 2003. hopefully we can start all over again in 2004. but that's for later ofcourse.
hereby I want to thank the people at the Llamasoft-forum for a lot of good advice and plenty of inspiration, you rule!
the new highscores are on their way, please have patience
game on!

Wow, excellent Paradroid, I've been waiting for this.
Eerrrrm, by the way can I just take the 5 points without even participating . Never really played the game (actually I did practice a bit over the weekend in anticipation and found it is a cool game to say the least).

Errm, you can only select between Paradroid (slow / original) or the Competition Edition (fast), but there's no Heavy Metal version included (yet).
But anyway, I'll re-release even this title and maybe I'll try to include also the Heavy Metal Edition in near future PLUS the Intro from the tape original (Competition / Heavy Metal edition). _________________ Jack Alien / Remember |

Yes, I think Matt possibly misread what I wrote but if it's possibly gonna bring a new Paradroid version from Remember (with added Metal), then I'm glad he did!
Just a quick question tho. How would you do that? I assume the GFX in Metal are at the same locations as Normal/Competition, would it be as simple as having two graphics sets on disk and loading the appropriate one (Normal or Metal)? I assume it'd be impossible to have both GFX sets in memory. _________________ Om. |

Well, I hope that the graphics (charset) are the only thing that are different between the single- and multi-color version. But maybe they changed also some datas in the matrix of the rooms, hopefully not.
The main problem I've to solve is the assembler code which I've to change from single- to multi-color graphics. It's mainly the $D016 register, but they surely changed also the $D800 - $DC00 ram and installed also $D022 and $D023 registers for multi-color graphics. Otherwise I've to make Heavy Metal Paradroid completely separate if they changed too much or I've to compare the whole (!) memory and levelpack the memories which are NOT the same, then make a selectable menu in the Trainermenu. If you select the Metal version, the program overloads first the code into memory. We'll see... .. . _________________ Jack Alien / Remember |

I think we (or Matt, directly) should decide one version to play and only one.
If all three are possible, I guess the original slow one is the easiest so everybody will play that.
I would suggest to play the Heavy Metal edition, instead: more challenging and slightly better graphicswise. And single plays should last shorter, which wouldn't hurt.
I never really got into this (and I didn't have it back in the day) but I'll give it a shot or two for sure. _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

so the heavy metal version it is then?????? I too think we should play only one version as there is bound to be some inadequacies in the end if we all played versions to our heart's desire. |

People were voting for simply "Paradroid", implying the original version. Heavy Metal Paradroid should be considered a separate game. _________________ "H.A.T.E is not the only diagonal shoot-'em-up - what about the amazing Armalyte?" - Actual letter to Commodore Force |

Metal Edition? No way!!!
- all the docks are dully grey
- the game's uncontrollably fast
- the original graphics are much better imo
and most importantly:
- we voted for "Paradroid" - there wasn't a single vote for "Paradroid Metal Edition" (as Queen Frostine has just pointed out)
Anyway, I think it's up to Matt to make an "official" decision and end the confusion! _________________ To visit c64animation.com, go to www.abc64.de! Hosting trouble... |

I think it's a bit presumptuous to say that. How do you know what version every single person had in mind?
If people want to play a particular version they they should say in here, and we'll get a concensus. |

They are not all grey if you don't like it. Simply press Run/stop to pause. Then press F1 to activate colour mode. |

Both you and Queen have a good point, even if I'm not sure that every voting people intended to vote for the original; I agree Matt should clear things up, but
H.M. Paradroid is just as colourful as the original: just press F1 on the briefing screen to switch to multicolour mode.
Imo the gfx are better in HMP than in the original.
EDIT  Mr.L, you were quickier than me! _________________

I agree... well actually I'd suggest play whichever version takes your preference between the Heavy Metal and Competition Edition, that way there can be no issues later on regarding speed or difficulty etc _________________

Freakin A! I've just had a haircut - I feel nude!
Anyway, personally I don't mind if anyone gets higher scores than me using the slow version. Man, I've never spent more than 10 minutes on this game before the last few nights, and now I'm addicted! ...but even though I've never really played it before I still prefer playing in "FAST" mode... "SLOW" is for wimps! _________________ Om. |

Slow's for pros!
The original slow mode is fast enough for me, especially on the later ships... they are bloody hard in Paradroid classic, and I guess there's no chance of survival if you play the Metal Edition (for lack of control).
As I'm optimistic that the original version will be "it", here's the result of my first try:
I had intended to SHOCK & AWE with a really big score, but then I died a crappy death at the end of ship #2 (after scoring a freaky 35,000 points on the first ship, damnit).
PS: the ME colour mode is just sickening! _________________ To visit c64animation.com, go to www.abc64.de! Hosting trouble... |

Because they typed "Paradroid". But perhaps I shouldn't assume that people who type the title of a game actually mean to vote for that game. _________________

@ blabgorius
My best score is still worse than your worst score.
I need a lot of practise to get into the top 10 this time. |

I didn't vote this round, but I have actually voted for "Paradroid" for previous rounds, and yes I meant the Metal Edition. I don't see why anyone would want to play the original when the author has twice went back to it to improve it. |

Well, well, well... another game I've never played... how lucky I am?
To tell you the truth, I have played this game before... but no more than three or four times. I like it, so perhaps I won't end up hating it like that David Midnight...mare Magic. _________________ Galileo Fígaro... Magnífico! |

When i voted for Paradroid i wasn't thinking about "Heavy Metal" or "Competition Edition". In fact i did not even know that they were official versions.
In my opinion people should have voted for these versions if they want (everyone) to play it, just like the people who voted for "Uridium+" did instead of the original version. |

okay we can argue about this matter a whole month
but I think there are more people having trouble playing the metal version than the original one. I think it'd be easier for all of us to stick with the original version, actually that's the game most of you guys voted for, right? _________________ |
