hiya gang!
are you still in the mood for some gaming?
here we go again with round three of the Lemon games compo.
rules are still simple:

--> games compo starts now as we speak and ends sunday 6th of april 2003 24h00 PM
--> download Buggy Boy here, it's the LURID+TRICYCLE version at Dohi's site.
--> post screenshots with your highest score in this thread.
--> don't cheat! (be fair alright?)
--> please take this in mind, it's important!
Boçù wrote:

Be careful with the screen grabs: if you make more than 100,000 points, take it *before* the game ends adding the points on the post-game grey screen

short FAQ:
1. how do I take a screenshot of my highest score? (ccs64)
--> when you achieved a score which is worth being mentioned 8) , there's two options:
- press ALT+F1 to save a 16 color bitmap, or
- press ALT+F2 to save a 256 color bitmap.
the screenshots are saved into your ccs64 directory, in both cases you better save the screenshots as a .GIF image, as it takes less space.

2. I'm not able to post any screenshots over here, what'd I do?
--> don't panic, there's always an option to send them towards my email address (below). once I got the screenshots, I'll post them as soon as possible.

3. Okay, I ended up being the true Lemon games-champion, what do I win?
--> well, nothing, zip, nada. but you will be threated as a champion, make no mistake!

4. Who will choose the games we play?
--> you! the games are chosen by voting. each games-voting will last for a week (first or second week of the month) and it's entirely up to you which games will be played in the future.

5. How long does one specific games-compo last?
--> one week of voting and three weeks of playing makes that each games-compo will last for exactly one month.

6. How long does the entire competition last?
--> the competition started junauary 2003 and will end december 2003. that makes 12 different games compos. all in order to find out who is the true Lemon Games champion of 2003. hopefully we can start all over again in 2004. but that's for later.

hereby I want to thank the people at the Llamasoft-forum for a lot of good advice and plenty of inspiration, you rule!

--> this compo got mentioned at THE SCORELORD pages. that's great! thanks Gordon, thanks Boçù!

(more FAQ's are coming up later)

'till now, game on lads!

Game on! Smile Just one quick question though: Are there any restrictions on the course to be used?

I never played this game before either... I'll do my best. At least, I think it's pretty similar to Live and let die, and it was fairly good at that one, so...

Shame on both Matt and Antares: Buggy Boy is an absolute classic (witness the Zzap!64 Gold Medal Award back in december 1987 and it still ranks as one of Paul Glancey alltime top 5 and Gordon top 20). Wink

I guess no restrictions on the courses should be put: just we try and get the highest score possible (I really don't know which is the best race to score on, but I think that Offroad and West are the easiest).

Be careful with the screen grabs: if you make more than 100,000 points, take it *before* the game ends adding the points on the post-game grey screen.

Game on! Very Happy

Did you notice it's the third coin-op conversion in a row? Three classy jobs they did if you ask me.

And so do I. Buggyboy was a game I never really played. I had a look at the Arcade-version some weeks ago, but only for a short try.....we'll see the results, soon. Happy gaming to you all, mates Wink

Here's my first, yet poor result:

b.t.w. I confounded Buggy Boy with Burnin'Rubber. Buggy Boy wasn't an Arcade-release, was it??

Ya! Buggy Boy was in the arcades, though I only remember a 3 monitor version - so it probably wasn't *everywhere*. In fact I seem to remember Zzap! saying something about how good it was that the programmers squeezed the 3 screens into 1 in the conversion. Smile

Here is my first attempt (highest so far I believe? Wink).

I'm playing it via an emulator, because I am at work 12 hours a day. I'll have to wait until the weekend to play it on a real C64 Wink.

Oops, I forgot to save a screenshot before it counted over 100,000. Here's what I did get:

That score down the bottom of 00330 with a little crashed sprite or something was my score as it hit 100,000, whith still another 2,000 or so to go on Sad.

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

@Firefox: take a look at the cover of the game in the games section.

@Funkscientist: I never saw a three screen thingy, nor do I remember the Zzap! crew mentioning it, but I may have a memory failure...

@Skyrider: I can't see your image.

@ Mar and everybody else: congrats, this is bound to be a tough challenge, with many people reachin around 100,000 in the first day!

Huh...when I was playing offroad the screen messed up in all kind of weird colors suddenly.
I could still play normal, but the background went purple and evrything else green and yellow.
Anyone encountered this also ? Shocked

I've encountered a number of bugs (haha, buggy boy get it!! Rolling Eyes ). One being weird arse colours and graphic glitches like you mentioned. Another is the very dodgy sprite collision. As well as the centre of the track slowly moving left or right!
