Level 2, rating 52
(Although I was actually on level 3 when I died... Odd scoring method)
Verdict: worst game I've played in the Lemon competition. I mean, which genius designed it so enemies would appear onscreen and immediately shoot right at you?
And we had a thread where people could say "vote for my game" because... and people ignore it. _________________ |

So how do you guys get the ranking that high? I always try to head towards the tower mainly, and sometimes a tad to the left/right to replenish shields. I still mostly receive 24 ranking points per stage. _________________ |

The score you report should be what's on the screen. So it only gives you credit for completed levels. _________________ |

Played this game before and I enjoy playing it again!
Impressive scores from Neo-Rio and SLF so far. Here is a first modest score:
80 - Lvl 2

Yes, you only get credit for completed levels.
I'm not exactly sure how the rating is compiled. I assume it's from max points scored per level vs. how long it took you to complete the stage, minus how many lives you lost. Either way, unless you finish the stage your rating won't increase.
This is how I played the game... I tried to shoot as much as possible (especially those damned radars) while travelling as fast as possible to the tower. Along the way you have to strategically slow down over those positive energy fields to refuel yourself as much as possible, but when you are at almost full energy you can just whizz over them and top yourself up.
Note that every bullet you fire sucks energy too, so try to be an accurate shot
Anyway, there's no way anyone will beat my rating unless they can complete the game starting from level 1.
Mind you, I played this game a hell of a lot back in the day... so I've finished it numerous times.
Half the trouble is learning how to deal with missiles really. Try to get them from showing up by knocking out radars before they pass you, or you'll trigger a missile. Failing that, you'll have to bank left or right at top speed to avoid getting hit. With more practice you can fire off a bullet and hit them just as they come down on you too. |

At the end of level 1:
Score: 23,800
Clock: 8:41
Rating: 20 (woohoo!)
End of level 2:
Score: 33,400
Time: 5:20
Rating: 70
I guess I'll try again tomorow |

Slowing down on the white fields seems crucial. Still got killed in stage 3.

For me, the game is an absolute doddle.
When I first played it... I had trouble lasting very long on level 3.
The first time I finished the game, I was excited because I had finally beaten the game.
Now? I can finish the game nearly every time I play it.
Make sure you top up your energy to max (3000) by slowing down over those yellow fields to suck up as much energy as possible... then jet towards the tower at full speed until another one shows up.
Don't get an itchy trigger finger because bullets eat your energy. Use them ONLY when you think you have a good shot on your target.... but when you DO have a good chance to hit something, take the shot and go for as many points as you can!
Also try and line yourself up to hit those pesky radars, because they call in friends.
The game is fairly easy as long as you keep your energy up and don't smash into things. Missles present a peculiar problem in that regard.
In level 5, yellow fields do not appear very often, so missing one or shooting them can be long-term deadly for you.
One other tip: If you fear hitting a red field and cannot dodge it, shoot it so it spins around. It can't hurt you when it's spinning like that. Mind that you don't want to do this at all if you can avoid it.
Hope these tips help. It's lonely at the top! |

The addition of missiles make this level really hard.
Best practice that level a lot. It will take a while to develop the muscle memory to dodge these.
Missiles don't go away on level 4 or 5....
Learn how to time your plane to bank left or right from the missile at high speed. Don't fly straight forward or you will surely get hit.
Prepare to bank as soon as you hear that whoosh....
Note that there are two heights the missile can come in at.
It can come in low to the ground or up high. If it comes in high, wait until it's over you, fire a shot, and then bank. Often times you can hit it but it's really hard.
It's a bit harder to hit the ones that come in low, but they seem easier to dodge.
Also note that you can either bank away from the missile or in towards it. It doesn't matter. It knows where it's going to come down up to a certain point. Then you just have to get out of the way. |

Thanks for the advices. It's indeed the missiles that gives me & all others hell. Sometimes I manage to dodge them and sometimes when I dodge they get me, sometimes I manage to shoot the missile and sometimes it's impossible to hit it but the key here is probably as you say to shot it when it comes in high and dodge when it comes in low.

I'm back
I just completed the game:
Rank: 446
http://spazioinwind.libero.it/cabi/St2.bmp
All in all, it's a nice game.
I doubt I'll be able to beat Neo-Rio's score, though. In my game, I was killed once on level 3 and twice on level 4 and 5.
I'll give it a shot tomorrow in the early morning. _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |
