KING OF KONG...

I watched this film the other day. My first reaction was "GOSH! ARE THESE GUYS FOR REAL!?!" - but I couldn't stop thinking of the C64 SCENE of today...
This "Billy" character could almost be some scene-moderator -
obsessed with rules and scared of the competition...

But I guess this kind of ultra-nerds is only fiction...

Here...have a peek:

you forgot to mention that your "scene" buddies that create super funny stuff like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vExp7HyS5nM have absolutely nothing in common with "king of kong" whatsoever, and practically own this scene for real! yeah!

rotfl. yeah, sure =) if you seriously think that anyone is even remotely scared by your so called competition, then i have no doubts that you ask yourself wether other people are for real =P

without beeing present at atleast a few major boards, how would you even participate in the firstrelease scene?

the key point here really is what you call scene and what not (hence my question about the local lamer group). as for me, i dont call every lamer who can link an intro to some crap game "scener". and certainly not everyone whose only skill is copying other peoples cracks - and that very much excludes the majority of those people you are refering to Smile

as for the minority - don't forget that mail swapping is very much, and mostly, an european thing. in the US, where pretty much most of the scene happened until the late 80s, it was very uncommon, and indeed the majority used BBSs - even lots and lots of non sceners did.

and by the time when "beeing a scener" became a mass phenomena, sometime around 87/88/89, certainly everyone who played a role worth mentioning in europe also had access to a modem.

same here Smile but i certainly wasnt a scener either until 1988/89 or so Smile

hey groepaz you know that (mega) swappers without any other abilities (like coding, drawing or composing) were also part of the scene?
you don't seem to like that but hey what can you do?
you are right about the ntsc scene though. most of them used boards yes but don't forget the impact (mega) swappers had in the european scene. they were just part of it whether you call them lamers or not.
on another point I guess you and TWR would make a great couple. now take that joke will ya? heheh.

Calm down, little one - don't get carried away. Nerd
It's not about me - it's about "Billy" and his rules...
Goldfish

@MATT: You are wrong. Swappers didn't exist in the scene! Dickhead It was only BBS and nothing else!!! Yell The Mega-Swapper was introduced with the internet, (200+ e-mail contacts!) Borg

There have been rivalries in the past between various groups, fighting another. Some of those used to end up as war demos. Some of which were amusing and quite funny.

There have been fights between different groups. I do remember some anti-lamer demos formed by members of different groups. I do remember a demo by Extacy that was sending a message to "SEAL/Amnesia". To make the demo more amusing, during the beat of the music playing. A finger pointing up used to appear. Also do you remember the group that had enough with Aaron/Fairlight? (All Against Aaron)

Don't forget the Alpha Flight vs Onslaught prank as well Smile.

probably to avoid redundancy, exory=crossfire Smile
