Matt Gray, for the sheer rockiness of his tunes. I was even excited when I bought Treasure Island Dizzy that he did the music for that.
Closely followed by Jeroen Tel, Jonathan Dunn, Charles Deenen.
I still don't understand why, though good as Reyn Ouwehand's tunes are, they replaced Last Ninja 2's music for the remix. I suppose it is the definition of remix.

Nobody has mentioned Barry Leitch yet. He has some really cool stuff, check out the in-game music of Marauder (2nd tune) for example. Very Last Ninja 2-esque. Pure melancholy. _________________

Nah, you missed Barry's finest moment off the list - the Chicken Song _________________
Matt Gray is my favourite SID-composer. Last Ninja 2 is the best SID-music I've ever heard! Tusker, Vendetta and Driller are also some of my favourite tunes. Some other favourite composers of mine include (not in preferential order):
Neil Brennan - Great music for 1985 like Fist, Castle of Terror and Hobbit. Samurai Warrior is also worth mentioning, though it's from 1987/88
Jeroen "Red" Kimmel and Michael Winterberg Made som interesting tunes in 1986, such as Crazy Sample I & II (Kimmel) and Yek Mata Dance (Winterberg)
Marcel "MAD" Donné Had his tunes in a couple of crack-intros. Check out the Ikari Intro-tune.
Jonathan Dunn - Platoon, Robocop and Not Two More are some of his best tunes. Very underrated composer. Platoon rules!
Martin Walker Armalyte and Walker's Warbles rock! Another underrated composer.
And many others who deserve further recognition (Markus Schneider, Jörg Rosenstiel, Christoph Bergmann (Street Gang Intro Rules!) to name a few.)
It seems I'm not the only one hooked on SID-music....guess I'm not such a geek, after all. [/b]

godverdomme kree, you're absolutely rite about marcel donné! scorpion is a killer tune too but I think Amyloid is really his finest moment.
the ikari intro tune you mentioned, was it the most heard cracker intro tune in the late 80's? I guess it was.
you mentioned markus schneider. lords of sonic hey? listen to 'leonardo' by jens blidon (als LOS). it is a jewel!
and now we're talking oldschool. check out 'madness' by mario kriwanek.
I remember all of the tunes mentioned here were used a lot in crackintros in the late eighties. also 'hurling frootmig' by rockin' limited. aah the memories!
pretty famous tunes those days were also 'ikari intro', 'laxity' and 'ikari intro song'.
also, yep, you mentioned him, markus schneider's 'for strike force' is a real killer song. exactly the same genre like all of the tunes mentioned above.
from that time era there's a lot more artists that deserve a mention. michael hendriks of fame ('strike force intromusic') for example.
that's about how oldschool I could get!
check out these tunes. they will have an impact on your life!
I wish I wasn't that much of a freak every now and then. muuhaa
oooh and before I forget I want to mention thomas detert here aswell cos I think he's one of those 'most underestimated artists' too. 'dynamoid', 'starforce', 'b-bobs', 'another world', 'clystron'... only to name a few of his masterpieces.
enough for now, more of that tomorrow _________________

I'm always looking forward to new music scores by trident!
what a great composer!
@superlinus: I really like 'coco' from goto80. and hein seems to be back in business aswell, that's great.
but are all the old composers coming back?
I mean, I've seen new tunes by laxity, drax, hein (although he wasn't composing in the days but drawing), etc... who said the scene's dying? _________________

As far as Last Ninja go, I really like the Last Ninja 3 tunes, especially the ones for stage 1 and 3.
I'm a huge fan of Tim Follin, though, and his work on Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Gauntlet 3 (including the Amiga versions, for that matter.) He also did some excellent tunage for the NES game Solstice.
Ah, but that's off topic (sorta.) I'll check out some of the other SID's, since some of the recommendations in this thread were awesome too.

Yeah most of the names mentioned here are the same as the ones i'd mention.
Hubbard, galway, daglish, fred gray, david whittaker were my favourite composers at the time..Then maniacs of noise arrived, tim follin etc and kept up the good work in the late 80's early 90's.
It's a shame that most of them don't do game music anymore..Tim follin done the recent psp version of lemmings and david whittaker done the decent score for the brand new pc(and console i guess)"Chronicles of narnia" game.
Good to see him back actually..I always liked whittaker's work.
I think that was his best tune ever, such a shame they removed it from the final version of the game sold in the shops!
If JT was still posting here I would say JT
What's great about the SID is that we can actually have these kinds of discussions, what other 8 bit computer can people sit and have a similar discussion about? Exactly
