Just a word of note. The "official" highest score on the Scorelord page,
the current world record is 699,020 by Boçù, Italy. For those who do not know, Boçù is actually our very own SLF, so he will be the man to beat. _________________ | Stingray wrote: | | So no one understands exactly how the C64 works as it is reversed engineered Alien technology via the Nazi Vrill project, Project Paper Clip and the TOI project. |

Lost a couple of lifes on level 10, also one or two on level 8 and one more on the last level. Don't know about the better score on the board, that was some time last year.
Katakis is one of my favourite C64 games and one of the very few that i play regularly. That means i complete it once a year or so. Played it alot in the past so it's very easy for me. If anyone needs advice on some tricky bits, just ask. |

No, I can pretty much see this is a waste of my time, and I haven't even started the game. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

Thanks for your kind words, mate.
Of course, the Scorelord's page does not get updated much.
Nice score, Apollyon.
I used to love this, still like it, but its random and unfair elements grate a bit now. I reached the final level with a score of 620K (I was slaughtered there).
Then I made a higher score reaching just level 10. Here it is:
659,790 (level 10)

I hate level 4. Love level 5. _________________

Actually it's a great game JT.
I'm completely rubbish at it too, but it's an enjoyable blast. Hopefully I'll manage to get the time to play it properly, but I don't hold out much hope these days _________________

My official ice breaker. I haven't played this game yet, but that's what's so wonderful about this games compo. Not only do you get new games or games that you've always wanted to play, but you get to play them and know them well.

Was this game banned in the UK for being too similar to R-Type? I remember Rainbow Arts had a track record for this (Great Giana Sisters was also banned!) _________________ If it bleeds, we can kill it |

Not banned. But when katakis was released there were 'issues' and two things happened. Level2 was changed (mostly colors), the satellite-gfx were changed, the sperm-alien removed and a few other sprite changes (most notably the walkers). The game was then re-released as Denaris and RainbowArts agreed to make an official R-Type version as well, which they did. _________________ |

Finally, a game im actually rather good at this year! |
That's some score , I don't think I ever reached so high.
I'm guessing you lost a few lives on later levels, 'cause if you go straight to completion, the score is definitely lower than that, in my experience. _________________

OK, I managed to complete the game, with quite a lot of struggle (and a lot of luck too, especially on the final level).
767,670 (Level 12, Completed)
http://spazioinwind.libero.it/cabi/K1c.bmp
I'm guessing this will be my final score for this month, and I'll concentrate on trying to complete Delta and Uridium instead.
I think it can certainly be beaten, but I'm not bothering, because I wouldn't enjoy trying further. _________________ My top games: 1.Hawkeye, 2.Uridium, 3.Creatures II, 4.Delta, 5.Bubble Bobble, 6.Ikari Warriors, 7.Armalyte, 8.Bionic Commando, 9.Archon, 10.Buggy Boy. |

Actually the first time I play this without trainer
I knew it'd come back to bite me one day.
176670 - 04
Also, weirdly the GB64 version won't let me restart with F1 once I got Game Over. _________________ |

Oh dear, I suck so badly at this game it's too embarrassing to post a score.
The GB64 version isn't working for me properly anyway. I'm playing on VICE and when reaching the level 1 boss it comes towards me, goes straight through, exits stage left and leaves me twiddling my thumbs with nothing to shoot at! |

You still not completed Uridium yet? Come on SLF, get your finger out.
Never played this Katakis before. Pretty ropey collision detection. Better get my finger out if I want to retain top spot. |

This was not intended to be a conscious effort of score whoring... but i lost about 8 lifes on the last level, reached the alien queen with the last one - and died. Now i feel dirty. |
