Keep your eyes on this one, folks - the last time Warlock - The Avenger was listed on eBay it was one of my own auctions, and I was amazed when it sold for over £80! It'll be interesting to see if that was a one-off; if it turns out to be as popular again then I might start thinking about listing my mint disk version and my sealed Amiga version! Smile

Shocked

I've got that on disk too.

I've been thinking of putting that and Ghouls 'n' Ghosts (disk) on eBay when I run out of money. I nearly already did but the system was too overwhelming for me. Perhaps if Warlock proves to be something truly sought after, I might consider taking time to learn the ebay selling system.

It's the US release. To my knowledge, the UK Ocean C64 version was only released on tape.

By the way, if the guy how bought this game for 15£ 3 weeks ago on ebay uk can tell me a big "Thank you !"

I sent an offer to the seller. Just have the time to go to drink something. When came back just 10 min after. I see that the seller said ok and relisted it in a buy-it-know format for me for 15£.

Rest of the story ? Someone else have snapped it before I can react ...

The 5 min auction was there :

I tried to track down where I got it in my old emails -- no luck. Most likely, I bought it on eBay.

If a male Alter Ego can go for that much, I wonder what a female version is worth now...?

Yeah, disk prices appear to be heading upwards, that's for sure...

Is it me how bought this cart from you ? Didn't remember. Get so lot of them duing those past years. A collector is always looking for better condition games Smile So basically it takes me sometimes 5 release to get the mint one. Then I generally resale them on ebay.

The story of the 50 GBP is because ebay have change when listing my games on ebay ... Sure that ghostbusters is quite a comon hes australia cartridge and not on the top rarity... My real reserve price is largely less than that...

I'm pretty sure Alter Ego sold for not far short of £100 fairly recently - perhaps three or four months ago - so while I'm certainly pleased to see my auction going so well after just a few days, I'm hopeful it will go a bit higher before the auction ends. Smile

As for the female version... well, if one ever turns up I could imagine a nice example inviting Magnetic Scrolls Myth levels of interest!

I have them both in excellent condition and the disks have been been confirmed to be unmodified (the game saves to the original disk). I don't care for either game, so maybe I should sell mine too!!!

Well if your Female Version AE ever hits eBay I'll be first in line to enter the bidding!! Wink

Interesting info about it saves to the original disks. I bought the original AE female version (disks only) a while back - but I have not checked if they are unmodified. If they are unmodified it will probably make them more valuable.

I wonder if anyone will sell the box on ebay? If they do count me in for a bid Smile I don't have any high hopes that it will happen thou. Laughing

I wonder if he who ended up buying AE for $15 knows how lucky he was? Especially since SAM had got the seller into BIN and that he was about to press the BIN button himself?

Note to self: if BIN appears on a game that is wanted AND price is low THEN press the button FAST! (Sounds like a logical program).

I recognised the name and checked my feedback. Smile I'm not worried about it, made me laugh actually. Smile My wife saw me looking at it and thought I was buying it back (not realising it had finished).

I think it was about $45 for the game and about $25 postage to France, so that's getting up to around £50 anyway.

Thanks so much for that - it's great to see it and to know that it exists, even if it's very, very unlikely I'll ever be able to add it to my collection. But you never know! Smile

Huh... the Zzap!64 review says tape only, and I've never seen it on disk either, just the US version. You're probably right, it's then quite rare...

It's not often that you see a budget title, fairly common one too, end at such a high price. I would assume it's a bidding war between 1-3 bidders, fighting over Hit Squad's Last Ninja 2 - currently at £20,- and still we have 1 hour to go before auction ends!!

That certainly is a high price for a budget title, although I have noticed in recent months that the prices for budget titles have been rising steadily. A couple of years ago I would never have considered listing budget titles individually on eBay, but these days I do so regularly with starting prices of £2.99 and they are proving popular and selling well at that price. They also often climb as high as seven or eight pounds for a single title, depending on which title it is and how many interested bidders there are.

I'm still looking for an example of Heavy Metal Paradroid, which I imagine would be one of the most sought-after budget titles now (even though this version of Paradroid was never actually released as a full-price title). I used to have it but the condition wasn't the best, so I let it go... I thought at the time it would be easy to find a replacement, but that was quite a few years ago now and I've not managed to get hold of one yet. Ah well, the search continues...!

Budget titles are a Universe of their own - it seems Smile As you say, some titles was only released on budget labels. Most budget titles thou was re-releases of old games - sometimes having small differences from the original release - for better or worse. I think the budget versions of TLN must be of far lesser value than their original releases, since the budget versions was stripped of the fancy packaging and extras.

I was happy when I recently found a version of Heavy Metal Paradroid in a German lot of budget titles. Only paid a few Euros for the lot. I don't think it's that often found on ebay. It's a good example of a great title that's not to be found as another release. I'm not sure on if most budget titles was released on both tape and disk - I know some was released on disk, but I'd imagine many wasn't.

I'm currently looking for games from the Pirate Software Label. I was happy finding Call me Psycho recently. Not that they released any superior games, but they have proven rather hard to find. Rare titles are as many know - a collectors wet dream Very Happy Another task that has proven quite hard is to complete the releases made from Mastertronic and Code Masters. They made so many titles over many years - some of them I suspect was not very popular and sold less. Others are awfully common and to be found in piles.

But the budget label I would like to have completed ATM is Americana. At first I thought it was an US GOLD label, but was surprised to hear it was part of the Mastertronic Group (Later Virgin). That label have a load of very good titles. And their disk releases look amazing. Have 3 of their disk releases so far. Too bad they did not release all of them on disk. If so I would have Bruce Lee, RAID, Beach Head I & II and Zorro on the top of my Wishlist - even before the US GOLD versions.

Ah, Pirate Software... I know I've got a couple of its titles somewhere here... Trivial Fruit and SS Panzer, both acquired from my local corner shop while I was doing a paper round. SS Panzer is a bog standard SEUCK game, Trivial Fruit is... well, a general knowledge game and a nice little title, especially as you could write your own questions.

That they actually released SEUCK games says a lot about their quality. Not all their titles are that "easy" - I'd imagine a few had dedicated programmers working on them. So far I got Trivial Fruit, KGB Agent (made by Danish sceeners) and Operation Anoria (OK programming but graphics SUeCKED Razz) + already mentioned Call me Psycho.

To name one Budget Label that I think made a lot of great games was Hi-Tech. There were some great titles from Zeppelin, Atlantis, Byte Back, Players and Code Masters too.

Some Code Masters titles I can't find, like Bee 52. It was released towards the end of CM's lifespan, so maybe it sold just a few copies? Do you know Nick Taylor, the programmer, Mayhem?

Another one of his CM games: Grell & Falla is also impossible to find. Same story? He made a lot of great titles for HiTech, CM and others in just a few years time. He made several titles together with Demo Duo legends Ash and Dave. Scooby & Scrappy Doo to mention one such game.

Speaking this much about budget titles makes me want to challenge all on the thread to try locate the most expensive budget title sold on eBay. That should be a fun little project. Perhaps there are a few HOT games among them? Smile

I'm doubtful there are many (or any) ending over £20,-

As far as I can remember, Americana was run from US Gold's offices, relied on US Gold's licenses/contacts in the States, but as you say the games were distributed by Mastertronic. Mastertronic then founded the labels Entertainment USA (to import titles from the States, such as Sculptured Software's Ninja, and Beach Volleyball) and Bulldog (to promote original British games such as Rigel's Revenge and Feud)

Bee52 was never officially released by Codemasters on the C64, but was sold by Nick Taylor himself via mailorder briefly after getting permission to do so from Codemasters. It wasn't properly packaged, just blank materials with photocopied instructions (which I haven't seen a copy of) More details here (including the snippet mentioning Nick's sale): http://www.gtw64.co.uk/Pages/b/Review_Bee52

Same for Grell and Falla - Codemasters left the C64 market and this was another casualty. It was never intended for individual release either according to Nick, but part of a compilation that Codemasters planned - which could likely have been to squeeze the last bit of money out of the C64 and release a bundle of previously unreleased games (Bee52, Grell and Falla, Captain Dynamo 2, CJ's 4th etc). I'm unsure why Nick decided against selling this one himself as well. More details here: http://www.gtw64.co.uk/Pages/g/Review_Grellfalla

It's believed that Cue Boy was also only ever released on compilation and not individually.
