Finally, I'm able to release this little program after all these years. Following on from my earlier post, I have managed to copy the original disk onto a .d64 using Zoomfloppy (thank you, Jim Brain!).
It was not without problems. The original disk, while playing with no issues on a real C64, would not play in Vice using the same 1541. It wouldn't copy over correctly, despite disabling warp mode in cbmxfer and lowering the speed each time - even tried copying directly in opencbm, but the result was always the same - it would result in a corrupt .d64. So what I managed to do was copy the loader and main program files off the real disk, created a blank .d64 and copied them in there. Having all the music tracks on a .d64 I'd copied earlier, I found as much as I could and copied them on, also.
Because of the manner Maverick had saved each file in the directory, I had to figure out which keys in Vice would produce the same characters. This took me a while, as some characters looked identical but just wouldn't work - they needed to be exact or the program would fail to find them. Thank you to groepaz and kannL64 for helping me figure out what characters I needed in the end!
The first two tracks on the mix are different to those found on the real disk as posted in the video. The first track, called Burns, I could not find anywhere. I loaded up a noter and listened to every track I have, and none of them sounded like that. So I just put in a different track. The second one had the same name as a track on my music disk - but was completely different. I can't find that one, either. You can blame Maverick for that one. But apart from those two, each track is the same as on the original disk, and thankfully it is working properly.
So, a new release from all the way back in 1996, the only remaining software we have from those days, and all we have left of Waking Dreams. Try not to laugh, we were just kids at the time!

and thats why someone suggested that you upload the d64 from the original disk. someone may be possible to reconstruct those tracks. (to transfer enable warpmode and use unlimited retries. normal speed is actually making things worse here) _________________

Oh, I see what you mean - apologies for the confusion. I have uploaded the original, will give what you mentioned a go sometime tomorrow.

I was going to upload it to some service, but I don't mind people downloading it straight from my Dropbox. It's in the public folder, after all.

Glad to hear it! Some great stuff in there. If you recognise any of it, let me know! _________________

Nicely done! I was going to change the disk label and clean it up a bit, but I needed a break away from the computer and just said to hell with it. Cheers man _________________ We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams |

i really suggest trying to transfer it again. the data in this image is not even "broken", its the same 256 byte block repeating over and over again... there must be something wrong with the transfer itself (can you transfer other disks succesfully?) _________________

Yeah, other disks transfer just fine. I tried using my other 1541 also but got the same result. I'll give it another go sometime later today, and will let you know how I get on.
Edit - Nope, just will not transfer successfully. Runs along fine until about 42%, where it begins to *bleep* up, and does so for the rest of the disk. Gets to about 91% and then just finishes. Tried using warp mode on both 1541's. There doesn't appear to be anything physically wrong with the disk.
Edit again - Right, now I'm just trying to copy the first two tracks out of the disk, so I can just replace them in the .d64 I uploaded. Unfortunately, cbmxfer gives some error about the file not existing -
[Fatal] could not open file for reading: 62, FILE NOT FOUND,00,00
[Warning] error reading M1.@@@@@@@@@@@@.
Probably because it's in the c64's char set? Well, I had the idea to just load up Vice with an Action Replay and use the file copier to copy the tracks onto a blank .d64, but it just spins up the drive and keeps it spinning, with no activity light. I mean, the disk reads properly straight from Vice, but the file copier won't work. I tried using GEOS but configuring the program to accept the drive as drive B just freezes Geos without seemingly doing anything with the drive.
It's been so long that I've had to use 1541 dos commands more advanced than loading programs and directories that I had to actually scrounge around for my manual and leaf through it. All it told me in the end was that I should use a program to copy a file from the disk to a disk in a different drive. I remember being able to do this shit in my sleep back in the day, so you can imagine how frustrating just attempting this one simple thing and failing in so many ways can be. _________________ We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams |

For my theatre assignment I had to pick a play, read it, and then find music which I could put into the play. The music has to fit the play and go with the mood. The music can modern music or it can be music from the time period of the play. The play I chose was the importance of being earnest. I read the play but I am having trouble finding music which would go with the mood/plot of the play. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.
