I got a new (to me) Commie 64 (c) and a 1541 drive on the way, I want to be able to hook a couple of IDE drives (I have a few dozen gig or more lying around), as well as the 1541 and an ethernet connection to it. I have been looking at the uIEC and haven't seen an Ethernet option on it, anyone have ideas, suggestions etc?
Thanks tons guys.

Forget the IDE drives and get a uIEC
You can also get a 64NIC for the ethernet connection
You can find both of these at http://store.go4retro.com/_________________ |

I would recommend an IDE64. All in one solution. http://www.ide64.org/paypal.html
Why did i buy my IDE64's
USB link to computer with excellent windows driver support using a built in feature rich File Manager, Mass storage via IDE, USB and Compact Flash, Well supported and maintained web resources, Detailed Instructions for the IDE64 setup and the built in File Manager, addon Ethernet/Dual RS232 or MP3-Player via the Amiga clock-port, Battery backed real time clock. Just to name only a few.
On a side note how about using a more detailed Topic than "Ok, so".
Cheers

99,- EUR + 6,- EUR shipping
Simple, the Uiec is better Price for the average Joe. Not everyone has $100++ for Commodore stuff |

Have you thought about network storage with some on board space for your disk images $99 http://www.retroswitch.com/products/flyer/
$128 for a IDE64 is a great buy and worth saving up for. !

Both uIEC and IDE64 look great, however, both of them have a problem, no cover, plastic thingy and I am wondering what's their average lifespan If anyone knows if they come with a plastic cover, give a shout.
in other words,

I honestly do not care if they have a case, I have a dremmel and a couple copies of star post, that being said there are cases to be purchased online which I may do instead, I don't mind sacrificing a starpost cart but I hate taking anything Commie related out of this world.

Average lifespan lol. Longer than the 1541. No moving parts and 100% retail-available components count definitely in their favor.
So far I have never heard of a dead IDE64. I mean we aren't 6 years old anymore, and don't eat pizza with coke over the commie.
If the bare PCB "hurts your eyes", you should buy a box that fits them in an electronics or radioamateur shop, and put it on yourself. Many people have done it. Many people have actually mounted the uIEC INSIDE the c64 case, with only SD slot on the side of the computer.
Vintage computers aren't for people who are afraid of bare metal (and even grabbing a soldering iron).
BTW the C64SD v2.0 and the 1541 Ultimate-II do come with a cover, but for "connecting several IDE drives", the only solution is the IDE64. |

Uhmmm... why not?
So I usually eat pizza at the pizzeria, but I still eat with a coke over my computer. Age has nothing to do with it. _________________

Well...honestly the only difference is I never ate pizza and coke, it was always pizza and beer, and the beer still gets drank at the Commie, As I explained to my young wife the awesome thing about the c-64 was you could load a program and go make a sandwich have it and a beer ready by the time the program was ready to run!

ide drive? thats kind of like lo carb beer and a subway salad roll.
a noisy old 1541, a disk box full of old disks, pizza hut pizza(fatty and unhealthy of course), and carton of coronas!
the 1541 is like an old car, a thing of beauty _________________ raid over moscow does my head in! |
