I've been thinking of buying a Ipad just so I could read my Zzap pdf files on it. It's way too expensive though.
Give it a few years and it will go down in price. _________________ Tor Johnson - The swedish angel.

Does anyone else feel like that. I am not really interested in the Spectrum stuff (although I will still read it) and will gravitate towards the CBM64, Master System, SNES and Mega-Drive stuff.
It's weird but I would most look forward to a thorough Last Ninja feature and music on the coverdisk, even though I know what would be said about it before I read it and that I could listen to the music anytime I wanted thanks to the internet. Does that make sense?
It like I want to be comfortably vindicated and am seeking solace in the known. |
I know how you feel, I too enjoy reading mostly about games I have played or owned
Also, reading zzap, CU, C&VG and other similar magazines on the iPad is a lovely experience |

In the latest issue, where they talk about the Saturn, i found out that I own nine out of the ten games they recommend, including two copies of Panzer Dragon Saga, one of them un-opened. Wonder what that would fetch me on ebay... |

I'm surprised I haven't said it before, but both the standard and the point of the magazine are rapidly going bluuuugh. I think I'll just buy up to issue 100 then stop. It's getting less retro, and the interviews even aren't always interesting. It's just not informative anymore...I used to buy them because they at the very least made good perodicals for me to force upon others, but nowadays they aren't even that.
At least with the advent of iPads and Android tablets, it's practical to view scans of mags now - so I got my wish in the previous post. |

I started buying Retro Gamer last year and I love it.
Maybe it used to be better in the past, I don't know cause I'm quite new to the mag. _________________ Tor Johnson - The swedish angel.

I've thought about buying Retro Gamer a few times, but I don't see how there can be anything in it that you can't find online. £5 is a lot to fork out for a bit of glossy paper.
I saw the C64 thing while browsing through the magazine in a newsagent. The only other thing I remember was some guy ranting in the letters section about the N64 being about as retro as an XBox 360. _________________ |

Uhm... seriously?
RG is the definition of "proper" journalism. They go out and talk to people and have lots of unique material you can't find _anywhere_ else. (And they have built up a very good contacts network over time.)
They don't make 'em like this any more really. How they have survived and been allowed to keep up their work is a small wonder. |

Indeed, I challenge you to find most of the stuff featured online in some form... apart from people illegally scanning and distributing it _________________ Mayhem64 - for all your cartridge needs!

I always wanted to get one and finally got my chance last month! It was unavailable in my original country but I found the 3 latest issues here in USA quite easily. If anyone is looking for them, both Fry's Elec and Micro-Center get latest Retro Gamer Issues.
I don't know if it was any better before but the 3 issues I got were very interesting to read. Its every bit worth of getting a hard copy and be able to read it while lounging near the pool, without worrying about the batteries running out!
I only wish I could get some older copies with specials on C64 which are already sold out _________________ |

Stated at issues 3 and stopped reading them around issue 65. Just too many stories that seemed to dovetail with the release of a reboot, or some other such modern tomfoolery.
I would read every page, front to back and do it in about a week. By the end, I would still be reading the previous issue when the next one came out. Not because there was that much to read, but because the content wasn't calling me as much. |

Part of the issue with trying to talk to Japanese developers (especially) is that they will most of the time, as long as they are also allowed to talk about their latest project in some way. So it's like a condition to get things rolling, hence your comment about dovetailing into reboots. _________________ Mayhem64 - for all your cartridge needs!

Hmm... I want to say yes, but it's on the cusp of where looking at hardware goes back to currently (two generations). Ah, just had a check, issue #50 had a hardware profile on the machine. _________________ Mayhem64 - for all your cartridge needs!

I bought my first copy of RG the other day. The 12 page collector's guide on the Sega Game Gear sold it to me.
I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the other stuff that was in there; the profiles on the TMNT coin-op, Space Harrier, Metal Slug and Imagine Software in particular. If this issue had been especially written as a personal sales pitch to me, it couldn't have done a better job. _________________ |

Borders always carried this mag. Hopefully Barnes and Noble has followed suit. I WANT and look forward to the issue pictured above with Mayhem's article. _________________ Are you on the same island as I am? |

Issue 100 is now on sale. It includes a free copy of issue 1 which has profiles on Sinclair and Mastertronic. This month's issue also has an in-depth article on the Video Game Crash of the early 80s and an interview with the creator of the Magnavox Odyssey (thought to be the first ever game console). _________________ |

When we emptied out our attic in the mid-90's, I threw away all my Amiga magazines, mainly because the machine didn't interest me any more then. Fortunately, I felt a twinge of nostalgia when I looked through the 80's magazines like CU, Zzap and C&VG, so I held on to them.
Of course, now I wish I had held on to the Amiga-mags as well...hell, every now and then I even read old EDGE magazines, especially those from the N64 glory days. And 20 years from now I'll probably love reading Retro Gamer, a 20 year old magazine about(then) 45 year old games |
