Hi friends,
I had an itch to do a project last night, so here you go. An interactive serial number registry for hardware collectors. You can enter all the information on all your C64's into the database so we can find trends, as well as who owns the earliest and latest C64.

I found that, but it seemed not to be updated in a long time. Plus I am trying to collect more details. _________________ |

Added my Silver Label to the list including info on the chips seated on the board. Unfortunately no ceramic SID... _________________ |

Someone turned in serial #21 - it looks just like Charles Winterble's #19 that was supposed to be auctioned at VCF03. _________________ |

I need some opinions on the serial number prefix decoding.
The WGA, WGB, WGC, DA4 and DA5 are easy- all are West German assembled. However, were these different assembly lines at different locations? DA4 is found so far only on C64G and the DA5 is only on the C64GS. A, B, and C seem to be random across different models.
UKB are assembled in the UK. HB is Hong Kong, China.
For the USA assembled models, we have P, S, and RP. My guess is that this might be "S" for Santa Clara, "P" for Pennsylvania (West Chester), and RP for "Repaired?" I am not sure about these-it's only a guess.
Anyone know about the Commodore assembly line process? I thought "S" might stand for "Superline" since that's what Bil Herd called one of the PA lines, but this was much later than 1982 that the "S" machines come from. "S" is found on the earliest C64's, and VIC-20's were assembled in the Santa Clara facility, so this is most likely.
All C64c's are CA or HB so far. I've seen CA say USA made and West German made, so maybe they merged the serial number system by then. _________________ |

Added another C64 today, the old one that I owned as a kid. It seems to be a fairly early one with serial WGC31135, assming that the C indicates which plant/production line it came from and these were operating at the same time as A and B. At least the VIC is ceramic (perhaps it was on all that were early on?) and the CPU date is 0583. We got this some time in 1983 so it must have been fairly fresh out from the factory... but now it looks brown, dirty and terrible.
I see that Luzur in Sweden got one before and Ronny also from Norway got one a bit later. Perhaps a lot of the WGC series found their way to scandinavia... _________________ |

Didn't we already do this before...and it died. At least before they wanted a scan of the dataplate. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. _________________ Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

Just an update- I've added two previously unknown badge types (to me, anyway) which are the brown Drean C64C and the C64-II with an alternate plain font. Thanks to 'hedning' and 'e5frog' for the badge photos.
I've also e-mailed the user that says they have a C64C with the badge "etched into the plastic like POWER". I haven't heard of that variant before.
I can also add the C64GS and SX64 to the system sometime soon. The GS has the "sniper" badge, and the SX doesn't really have one except the back of the keyboard. I know of no variants of these...
Pete
P.S. At least we know there are at least 576 known C64's still out there in use. _________________ |

At 576 i would say your project is well on track to being a great sucess.
I placed my lowest serial number on there, i should add the others.
enjoy,
Shane. _________________ Looking for a causal coder, Python/MYSQL/PHP/Java. PM Me |

Still waiting for SX appearing to the model list, don't you happen to have plans to add different C128 variants there aswell? |
