Just a small update, with the newly found Eradicator, proper collection pages for the Jez & Philip Bayliss disks and an update on the SEUCK Redux project.
The next update will be a big one - reaching 100 games and demos in the new-look archive page. _________________ |

Thanks, I am sure Philip will be chuffed to see his classic games online, although those games a pretty old
By the way. I have another sideways SEUCK game called Legion of the Damned 2 coming to you soon, but at the moment I am working on the music for the game and also the redesign of the front end for use with SEUCK redux. _________________ The New Dimension

Legion of the Damned 2 and Yak's Revenge now up on the site, the new-look archive page (sorted by name and designer) is up to try out and the wanted page has news on several games now to be found in Gamebase (v6).
Next update will be the big one to take us to 100 items in the archive, with more re-organisation for the site, more individual pages for the games and more features... _________________ |

Five more games added to the Vault today, taking the total to over 100 items.
Go back to World War I with "The Push" by Anthony Burns, grab treasure and train to be a spy in "Art Thief" and "Spy Academy" from the Art Ravers, lick more enemies in "Nyaaah! 11 Special Edition" from Richard Bayliss and check out the previously unseen "Planet of the Balls" by Merman himself.

Here's the latest update
* Baphomet by Anthony Burns
Another great sideways scrolling game from Anthony
* Two games by the_hawk
Preserved from the original tapes by Frank Gasking
* Seven Amiga games by Sluggs
Featuring some nice intros and some unusual ideas
This will be the last update of the Vault for a while as I concentrate on other projects, but I still want your feedback, SEUCK projects and advice for use on the site in the future. _________________ |

1. Baphomet is a SIDEWAYS SEUCK game, created thanks to Jon Wells' updated code
2. It's got a cool sci-fi feel to it
3. It's got two different styles to it, walk along and shoot then switch ports to fly and shoot
Play it, you might like it.
And if you still persist in thinking all SEUCK games are the same, here's half a dozen to try from Retro Gamer's article on the Kit (issue 67, out today) - these are definitely NOT your standard Commando/helicopter game.
Cops
Fly Pig
Alien Task Force 1 & 2
House Case
Synetic
Banana Jones (which has cutscenes - bet you haven't seen many SEUCK games with those) _________________

i have tried sideways scrolling crap games too, and they are as crap as any other seuck game, really.

and? the sprites might look different. it's still the same engine which behaves like every other game made in the very same engine.

cutscenes dont improve gameplay at all, really. its still the same old shitty seuck, with some sugar on top. _________________

Cheers Merman! ... The Hawk will be chuffed to see his old work tapes backed up, though cringing a bit at the same time
SEUCK's always had its mixture of fans and haters ... The majority of my stuff (if not all) was the same generic crap, but personally i've always had a soft spot for the tool because I simply grew up with it as a kid. I could sketch ideas and have a working version within a matter of a few hours using it - which for a 8-11yr old was a god send
People like Alf Yngve and Ryan Chenry used to wow me a lot with the various tricks they pulled to create something which wasn't quite like everything else ever created in the tool. I always remember playing "Cops", which was the first SEUCK title i'd seen outside of my own creations and the demo ones, and I was blown away due to the amount of tricks and variety Alf had crammed in. I used to spend time after that trying to work out little tricks with the tool to do different things (Including a really shite diagonal scrolling game by using bullets as passing objects).
I wouldn't go back to it now, as its a little too restrained for the kinds of game ideas I have. But its been fun to digitally preserve all the various creations that people did over the years (Like helping The Hawk seeing his old creations for the first time in 20 years). Though probably depressing for those who never liked the tool (Sorry Groepaz! ) _________________ |

SEUCK was a perfect tool for the C64 for anybody who ever wanted to make a new C64 game, but SEUCK and Sideways SEUCK had its own limitations. Despite how good or crap the SEUCK game was. There are many SEUCK games that impressed me a lot. I am not talking about the ones with extra enhancements, but the original SEUCK games. Not by their game play, but by the amount of work the creator spent on their own creations. It also encouraged people to be more creative than just play games on the computer.
However today, if people are writing new games with SEUCK it is supporting the utility that has been produced nearly just over 21 years ago. Also programmers who enhance those games, by adding extra power ups, weaponry, etc give the games a huge bonus in gameplay. Take Archetype for example. The game play was indeed SEUCK, but after this game got enhanced with power ups, background animation, etc. It made me want to play the game even more, and I enjoy it.
Also this year, Martin Piper did some programming to help make SEUCK games get better, by reducing the SEUCK slow down syndrome. Which I think he has done a marvellous job. Martin also documented his code and distributed it freely on to codebase, for anyone who like to try and enhance SEUCK games with the ACME cross assembler to make them even cooler and better. Martin also made the sideways SEUCK game Legion of the Damned turn into a sort of SEUCK version of golden axe, by adding the spells (Which I also added the colour fade effect for when a spell was activated). Could this be a good future of SEUCK ) (Only if the sideways scrolling SEUCK's direction was reversed!) )

Groepaz, you are entitled to your opinion. But I still find that sort of sweeping statement - "All SEUCK games are crap" - to be wrong. I pointed out things like the cutscenes because they are unusual and certainly not expected from a "kit" game. The Sideways games released this year are definitely not crap - I think Anthony Burns has created some very nice games with it so far.
As for all the attack waves being the same, that is a limitation but certainly doesn't devalue the games. And again I take issue with them all being the same - Alien Task Force, for example does some clever things with its alien movements. _________________ |

I found an old SEUCK game from me which I made back in 1989.
Surely not really the best example for an good SEUCK game but maybe you want it for the SEUCK site.
The music is from Richard. Thanks again for this

I have to agree with you Andrew. That Skiing game is pretty good fun, although C64 game, Swiss Connection beats this game _________________ The New Dimension

There's one game which I am very eager to see added to the SEUCK vault. I visited the Retro Gamer forum, and there were a few screen shots of a cute SEUCK game by K.J.N. It looks like a platform and ladders style SEUCK inspired by Creatures. I hope this old SEUCK game will get released, as I have been itchin' to play it. _________________ The New Dimension
