I'll update this topic as i go.
First off i needed a C128D board with the power plug on the rear of the board.
What they weren't built with power plugs on the rear of the board.
Wheres my File and Soldering iron.
Ok that was easy and the board still works Bonus.

I have been thinking about some modding on one of my 64's, just to try it out. But sadly, I don't know much about electronics.. I'll propably just be replacing the power LED with a blue one, or something else I can handle with my poor knowledge.. _________________ Brian J. Nielsen

The cartridge port has been removed and repositioned.
On the Bottom of the C128D Board is
RIP: HERD/FISH/GUAY/PAR
Any idea's what this means.

I believe Bill Herd was on the hardware design team for the 128. Probably just a little signature/autograph from Bill and the other designers. _________________

As i don't need the user hole anymore and the H/L switch for the RF modulator has not been fitted to this board its got to go! where's my car body filler. Cartridge port next !!
Results after filing and sanding.
Hole needs to be created for the external keyboard.
Drilled 4 holes then using thin hacksaw blade to cut the hole out, finished
off with file and sand paper.
I also added a hole for the new power socket.
Next rs232 interface _________________ Looking for a causal coder, Python/MYSQL/PHP/Java. PM Me

The only device i every use in the user port is a rs232 interface
and as i don't want anything sticking out of the back unit, I've modified
my rs232 interface built by Fotios to mount internally.
Cut edge connector off interface and mounted it to the front.
Added cardboard to bottom just in case.
Fits nice and tested, working great very happy !!
Now to cut the user port hole to suit .
Next paint bottom of the case going to try black plastic dye "paint".

I'm still trying to figure out what the end result is going to be here... _________________

It's the work of master modder Al Anger (he's truly dangerous with a screwdriver) and you can find more pictures here. I hope he doesn't mind my posting that link. _________________

Well it worked gklinger !!
Now that's interesting, i didn't know you could insert a Ramlink into the cartridge port on a expander like that with a SCPU.
New idea's are forming in my head, no leave it alone. "for now".
I finished the bottom of the C128x and after shaking the can for a few
minutes i started to spray, hmmm but spray nozzle let go, a few minute's into the job, spraying black plastic dye from here to breakfast, with big
blots of dye all over the job, i had to stuff the spray can into a plastic bag as it would not stop spraying, I'll take the can back to the shop tomorrow and get it exchanged. Dam!! _________________ Looking for a causal coder, Python/MYSQL/PHP/Java. PM Me

I've painted the bottom of the c128x case satin black, Pictures will be posted soon.
Why i am posting today is to give you a glimpse into my next project.
Just getting all the bit's together and already built the base plate, it's going
to be the new home for www.cbm8bit.com
Yes it's a old 1541 drive case and that's a 12v mini itx power supply.
It's going to run on Debian "Lenny" with no GUI.
More on this project later. I need a Name. Ideas. _________________ Looking for a causal coder, Python/MYSQL/PHP/Java. PM Me

Removed wedge on top of the c128 case.
Cut neat cartridge hole and sanded off the nipples in the plastic, removed
the keyboard in preparation to fill in the keyboard and hole left from
removing the top of the case.
It's a bit over exposed but here is the finished base, i will be mounting
a rocker switch in the hole left over, from the power the original power plug.
I am looking for idea's on the color to paint the top
Very happy so far. SCPU sits right where i wanted it to.
The reason behind having the top of the c128x flat will be obvious when the top is finished.
I will be using a external keyboard with the c128x that will mount in the normal position and be removable when needed, more on this later. _________________ Looking for a causal coder, Python/MYSQL/PHP/Java. PM Me |

I've been busy with work and have only just found some time to do a little more work on the C128x.
Filled in the hole's left from the keyboard.
This was done by cutting perspex into the correct shape to fit in the holes and super gluing.
Ill be car glassing the perspex in to finish the job, a good sand then paint.
I'm thinking of painting the top a different color instead of black.
Here are some better photo's of the C128x
A better picture of the system board.
This picture highlights the changes to back panel.
This is how i plan on using the C128x with the C128d keyboard.
The flat top of the Commodore is perfect for the 1581 drive to
perch on and cartridge port is right on top for easy access. _________________ Looking for a causal coder, Python/MYSQL/PHP/Java. PM Me |
