I think this may be a cultural-linguistic hiccup. Just to clarify, in the U.S.A. and Canada, "pissed" isn't really considered to be a rude word and I'm certain Wolfeman meant no offense. Pissed is a commonly used to mean angry with a component of frustration. _________________

THANK YOU! I absolutely did not mean offense and I DO realize this forum category covers a particular reseller, however I feel I am posting on topic to the threads regarding the product and I also feel my comments were in no way accusatory to anyone except the manufacturer. There seems to be a disconnect here and I am not responsible for that.
as for "rude" refer to MacGuyver's comments not only here, but in this thread:
http://www.lemon64.com/forum/v...904#330904
I'm done with it. I'll simply avoid the protovision forum as a contributing poster, there is simply not enough time in the day and life is too joyus and short to include petty, stressful interactions.
I apologize sincerely for any assertion that my comments were directed at anyone other than the manufacturer. The need to "vent" my frustration and "share" it with others in the same boat is one I share here with many it seems and I don't think anyone would ever hold a reseller responsible for a product not working correctly or as advertised unless it was somehow damaged by the reseller prior to shipping.

I simply can not let this one go, your other comments are water off this duck's back, but this is something else.
Please show me WHERE in ANY of the advertisements, either on the main site or on any reseller site that says the MMC Replay is "Untested" and I will withdraw my comment... we're talking the advertisements now, not forum posts, which are not linked to in any ads anyway.
For the record "...borders on lying" is not the same thing is outright lying. Obfuscation of crucial information for the purposes of selling a product is, in fact, DECEPTIVE.
Saying that the MMC Replay is a two in one product with all the benefits of both in one and NO indication that this is based on limited testing or no testing is just wrong. If you want to defend that, then go right ahead and dig the ditch.
The ads and the documentation both claim that the 3rd party plugins for the MMC64 and Retro Replay work and can be used... nothing is said about them not being tested, quite the opposite is implied in fact.
In closing I'd like to clarify that my intention was to share information and findings with other fellow users, not to get in to an accusation match or an argument with anyone.
I DID do some research on the TNT browser and that has been posted elsewhere and through some PMs. I'm currently awaiting an MMC memory card from Hong Kong as it seems that is the secret to getting certain things to work, including the TNT browser. I will post a thread after I have done all the testing I can do and report very detailed findings and my experiences in order to help others and gain advice and comments on this wonderful piece of hardware... you see I really do love it despite this degradation of the subject, intent and personal attacks here. |

Hey, Wolfeman ... it's the internet -- I learnt a long time ago that the first rule of the internet is to never take things personally.
We're all c64 brothers and sisters (are there any sisters out there?), let's not squabble over little things that won't matter in 10 years time.
And I think the cultural-linguistic hiccup may also work both ways ...
Back on the subject, while there are certainly things that I wish were working a little better on my MMC Replay, I still love it and certainly don't regret buying it. And, while there shouldn't be any excuse for false advertising, I have to admit that when I purchased mine I knew that it was a labour of love created by fans like myself in their own spare time ... I feel compelled to cut them a little slack at least.
I am secretly crossing my fingers for a firmware upgrade one day, though. |

I have heard through the grapevine that a possible revision of the bios will be out in october or november of 2008.
anyone coming in to this thread looking for game compatibility, tips & tricks, and general info about the MMC Replay that can't be found elsewhere should check this thread:

well it seems bios 0.55 is here but it does not seem to offer any real upgrades for people who use it to play games and run programs on real hardware.
It breaks RR-net functionality and it causes the TNT MMC Browser to crash
all the hopes any of us had for the devs to listen to our requests is shot to hell. |

i don't know, but it appeared to me that i fixed a bunch of issues in 0.55 that were reported by our users, in particular:
- the sid player is much more compatible
- the prg launcher is much more compatible
- the crt launcher is much more compatible
however i dont remember getting any form of request or bug report from you so i could shoot it to hell?
btw the update doesn't "break" rr-net functionality at all. you just cant run a program that expects rr net from the filebrowser directly. this is a result of improving (!) compatibility when launching prg files - the c64 will be configured as close as possible to a clean reset state with no cartridge (and that means no rr net) activated. if this is not done a lot of old onefilers fail to run correctly. if you want to use warpcopy or codenet then flash the tfr rom into one of the banks and use that instead of launching the warpcopy server from the filebrowser.
the tnt browser stops working because of similar reasons, unfortunatly there is no good workaround for it right now though. in the next update i will make it possible to optionally launch prg fails in true "rr+mmc64" configuration, so external programs which use mmc or rr-net work again from the filebrowser _________________

sid player is for music, not much use to me in this context, although I am a musician I do not use the C64 for music, crt adds a dozen or so carts to be useful than before... um ok, call that an upgrade, I never had a problem with running any prg especially if I used the MMC browser to run them which is now broken.
I have posted on these forums numerous times over the last year, right in this thread in fact and I have given the aforementioned user results to my friends at vesalia.de/ who said they would pass that along to the makers of the MMC-R. I don't think they lied to me.
Here we have another instance of my posting in the "protovision" forum but not directing my comments at protovision at all but to the use of the MMC-R, the guys at siliconsonic.de . Please do not take things personally.
Now, if you're saying you personally made the revisions to the bios and no one else helped you or had any input, then I guess I am speaking directly to you, but the fact remains, I have posted my user results all over these forums. I made several threads where I tested the functionality of the unit and in fact I was the one who figured out that the MMC Browser worked on a certain memory card and not on anything else. I made extensive tests on all sorts of games, basically the top 50 favorites and then some and I ran every conceivable game playing related test on a variety of memory media and was extremely thorough.
I feel as if all that was ignored for no good reason and the fact that a means by which the MMC Browser can not be incorporated in to the MMC-R bios or at the very least keep its functionality as it was, is astounding since it adds so very much to the product.
As for the RR-net issue, why didn't you respond to that thread, it's been up for a while now? I was merely repeating a user's bug report. If what he was doing was broken with 0.55, and not in 0.54, that is a bug in my opinion
I'll stick with Bios 0.54 thank you very much and I won't bother posting my user results here any more since it obviously was all in vain... despite the huge pile of PMs I got while doing it, thanking me for my efforts. |

one of the things i am doing is merging the two sourcetrees, so in the future updates will be for mmc64 too. eg SDHC support is now in the mmc64 code too.

yeah, adding something that is highly demanded by many users is usually called that way =P if you dont need or want any of it, tough luck

a) the tnt browser is a third party product. just like 3rd party plugins we do neither do extensive testing with the nor do we support them at all. (thats simply not doable).
b) i explained to you how you can use the tnt browser anyways. you just can not run it from the mmc filebrowser.

and yet you didnt find the numerous problems with launching onefilers? you must have been very selective with your files. btw the last compatibility testrun before .55 was released contained ALL onefilers which are currently in the tosec archives. (also done by some of our users, many thanks, you know who you are)

again:
- the tnt browser is a third party product. this can not be incorporated into the bios for various reasons.
- the tnt browser is old, no more under development, and unsupported.
- testing *whatever* using the tnt browser is completely useless, except to make bugreports to TNT.
that said, i cant tell how nice it is at all. it never worked for me on any of the mmcr i have, and thats not a fault of the mmcr bios (more likely it doesnt like my sd cards)

again: lemon is no support forum for IC products. i read lemon occasionally and selective. if you want to report whatever to the developers you MUST use direkt email (and not report it to vesalia, lol) or the contact form on the website.

it wasnt in vain, it simply was the wrong place to post info if what you wanted is passing it to the developers. if you want to tell something to the developers, use direkt mail or the contact form. not lemon. not vesalia. not anythingthing else. really. _________________
