Too rich for me. I was thinking about selling a kidney, but for that price I'd have to sell two. _________________ airship

Most collectors will still be wondering 20 years from now why computers like the Apple I & the C65 will be selling for $1 million dollars. This has always been the case with collectables. Why do some vintage cars, watches etc sell for these amounts? Congrats to the buyer. |

The best thing is to know who has them, then wait for them to die. Their widows will inevitably say, "Just take it! I just want this junk out of here!!!" _________________ airship

As the buyer of the c65, I couldn't just sit by without commenting on this thread. Sure you can call me crazy - my wife does All I can say is that the c65 is going to a good home, it will not just sit on the shelf in a box gathering dust. Old computers as collectibles are rapidly gaining popularity. The article referenced by this URL just scratches the surface.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...01770.html
My start in the computer industry had its humble beginnings with the c64 and I have been blessed with a very interesting career. No I am not a dotcom millionaire however I am also not living in a cardboard box either. Life is short and you only live once ! Peace... |

Maybe we could set up a kill syndicate. There's maybe around 200 active members here. We could each 'get rid' of the owners and then have a local forum member knock on the widow's door...
I reckon we could all be happy within a year with very little suspicion. |

That's good. Mentioning the Post article about collecting old computers made me think you had bought it as a conversation piece. So what is it you're planning on doing with it? _________________

Ah crap. If old computers are now "cool" then I'm selling up. |

if the article is getting to people the prices would prob go up even more, with the influx of loads of new collectors. _________________ http://www.slayradio.org/webplayer.php

If I had the money, I wouldn't blink at buying a C65 for $9000. I'd have fun diddling around with it, restoring it to operation if necessary, showing it off at shows, etc.
As a hobby, even the most expensive retro computing stuff is relatively cheap when compared to old cars, motorcycles, boating, etc. _________________ airship

Thats a very nice return on your investment Commodore65, and its good to know its going into a good home. If I had been a single man I would probably have made a bid or two there too, but not in my current position. Some day I hope to be able to afford one, its one of those rare icons in Commodores history. The all elusive C64 followup (the C128 could hardly be called that) that was supposed to make them the big money.
I am quite sure if the C65 had been introduced in its current shape at around when the Amiga 1000 was out, but at C64 prices, it would have been an instant winner. But like many things in Commodores history after Jack left the company, things just came too late...
Enjoy your new "precious" one... _________________ |
