EEK! Razz Be careful, last person who asked for a copy of GEOS got in a huge amount of trouble by "Creative Micro Designs" Shocked

"CMD" and Maruice Randall of "Click Here Software" still have official commercial distribution rights to GEOS. So if you want it I'd advise getting a used copy or buy if from Randall at http://www.cmdrkey.com

And yes, CMD and Randall do keep on eye on Commodore sites and forums for people spreading illegal copies. Shocked

Have fun Wink

Yeah right... like I'm going to pay for a 15-year-old operating system. All I wanted to do was play with it for 30 minutes and then erase it.

(shrug) I'll go back to typing LOAD.

I remember a friend of mine had GEOS 128 (it used the hi-res80-column mode). He said that with the graphical interface of GEOS he didn't need to upgrade to the Amiga... he had all the power he needed.

(We all secretly laughed about his naivete'.)

You are bound to pay if you want to use it. It's still being updated and is not like 15 years old, if you get Wheels.

If you want to try it out for 30 minutes, you could get the DEMO VERSION. I suppose that one could be distributed, am I correct? I know teh Demo disk came with the GEOS distribution for you to show it to your pals.

Sad. I purchased BOTH the C64 version and the PC version, neither was all that hot, IMSHO... I can't see the propritary OS being of value... The fonts I had on my C64 might be nice on Windows, but that's about it...

What exactly is the big deal about a dead OS at this time that it can even break even? I might understand the Amiga OS, but GEOS???

I wanted the original 80's version, so I could see what it looked like in the past... and how it compares to present GUIs.

So, where's this demo?

But it isn't dead. Many are still using it with CMD harddrives and CMD FD-2000 disk drives. And as mentioned else in this thread, Maurice has done a complete upgrade (called "Wheels") turning it into a very versatle SuperCPU compatible operating system. Plus the copyrights are still intact.

I personaly don't have GEOS nor desire to use it - JiffyDOS is all the OS I need. Wink

Indeed, it is not dead.

I'll try to find the Demo disk in my Arnold archive. I think I saw it somewhere....

GEOS was quite a copy of the old MacOSes or AppleOS (AppleIIGS). The fonts are taken directly from that OS! Most of teh fonts I got with my Fontpack International package are exactly the same as those I have in my Mac Classic II :)

PC GEOS (better known as Geoworks Ensemble) was a much better alternative to Windows 3.11, IMO.

I agree it was better than Win 3.1, but my copy seemed to self destruct...
