Hi All,

in case you don't know, today is the day, Douglas noel Adams died five years ago. I'd like to salute him by waving my towel.

And I'd like to remind everybody of the Towel Day on May, 25th. It would be a nice thing to see a lot of people going around with their towels on that special day.

Because everybody should know where his towel is!

Great guy, great books and great TV show. However, the movie was not so great. About 9 hours too short and possibly incomprehensible if one had not read the books.

Towel day it is then! Don't forget to drink lots of beer and buy some peanuts as the Vogons will be clearing this part of space in order to make way for the intergalactic highway.

Don't forget to drink beer period! Even if Vogons won't come to destroy Earth. It might help though if a weird guy comes to you on a mission to insult everyone in the galaxy. If you're full of beer enough you won't even care and won't be insulted (that's playing a joke on him Laughing ).

Anyway - the movie was really too short (and I felt too Americanized - the jokes were shortened so people without ability to think could understand them).

Towel Day it is! Over here the 25th of May is still considered the Yought Day (it was officially while still under communist regime), so many people (especially younger) are prepared to do any kind of wacky thing on that day anyway. Should be fun Wink

Oh damn, I just remembered, I did watch that movie. Holy macrel, I hated it. I had purged it from my memory but now it's back, arrrggg. I still have the mini series on tape though. Gotta get the DVD if there is one. Now that version rocks.

Got my towel with me. Wore it on the city bus to work. Got a few strange looks but I didn't take much notice since I was reading Adams' posthumous book "The Salmon of Doubt". At work everyone's sort of snickering but one colleague agrees it is a great idea. Smile

I was very surprised today that quite a few of my pupils had towels... Turned out they had track qualifyings, so they had tracksuits and everything with them... Still - I wasn't the only one with towel I guess Wink

Was hoping it was sunny this day; so the explenation for it was me going to sunbath or somehting Embarassed but noh, cold and clouded it is ...
Well, I'm clean Smile

It felt great being the only one with a towel Smile It was fun explaining to everybody what is the significance of the towel. I went to work, went to lunch in a poshy restaurant and carried it with me to my wife's working place. When she saw me with it she just turned bright red and couldn't stop laughing Smile

A very successful towel day it was than with only one participant in Macedonia Smile

I have a picture and I'll post it up as soon as I get the film developed. Yes, I still use an analogue camera. What fun Smile

Sebastianos: are you sure your students are not secret Douglas Adams admirers, and that they only used track qualifying as an excuse.

Well I was off so of course I had a plethera of towels with me all day long. I actually forgot about towel day until late in the towel day but I accidentally had my towel with me anyway. I would have liked to gone towel spotting though. Maybe next year.

Thunderer forced me to go into town and wear a towel.
I looked like a complete fool walking around in the rain with a towel...but I don't think Thunderer cares about that Laughing

No, Thunderer cares a lot. I like the fact that I was not the only fool in the world walking around with a towl. Actually I felt proud that I was able to show my appreciation to Douglas Adams in such a witty fashion.

Next year we'll be more organised and lobby at least a month in advance to get towel day established even further. I am thinking about contacting the local book stores so they advertise it.

I change the topic to normal status since towel day is over Wink

Funny thing is, people consider me a weird person so no one got really surprized seeing me walking around with a towel Confused

Hey Guy,

thanks for remembering Towel Day! I had a towel with me the whole day. Since I was on a hike and it was quite hot I did not get that many odd looks Smile. Here's some pictures of me and my towel. I've been on holiday in the US last three weeks and on Towel Day I was hiking through Crawford Notch State Park in the White mountains, NH.

First one is me waving my towel at the Arethusa Falls. I also have a movie of the towel actually waving, have to edit it a little thio Smile.

Second one is me waving the towel at Mt. Washington, highest Peak in New England (I think...), the white one left of my hand (at least now I know why they call it "the white Mountains Wink). Notice that I'm also wearing my beloved Pirates!-T-Shirt Smile.

Please share your photos, and be sure to send them to the official Towel-Day-Site: http://www.towelday.kojv.net/

Today, May 11th marks 6 years the day of the passing away of Douglas Noel Adams, a true genius of our time.

So Long Douglas Adams and thanks for all the fish.

And a kind reminder to everybody that in order to commemorate Douglas Adams' time on this earth Towel Day shall be on 25 May. All you have to do is just carry a towel with you all day.

Could mods make this a sticky again!
