Having been a Commodore 64 kid when I was young I was happy when I traded a Nintendo game & watch for a Commodore 128D and 1901 Commodore monitor. Only thing is I can't get the computer to go into commodore 64 mode on the 1901 monitor. I have tried all my options known to me such as typing go64 or holding down the commodore key when turning on the computer but nothing works. I have also tried changing the 40/80 column key to 40 columns when going into 64 mode but this still doesn't work

It works fine in 128 mode and when I turn on the computer I get the C128 screen but when I type go64 it just freezes and nothing happens. I am using an old standard 9 pin cable between the computer and 1901 monitor. When I hook the 128d up to a normal TV using the RF cable it goes into 64 mode allright but not with the 1901 monitor.As you could appreciate this is frustrating as I want to get the 128d up and going so as to be a regular member of this forum etc. If someone can tell me how to get this working I would be most appreciative and I could send some original Commodore games to you or something.

The 1901 can take both RGB and Chroma/luma video as input.
The C128(D) uses the RGB for 80-columns display and Chroma/luma for 40-cols...

So what you need is a cable that you attach to the C128's "normal" videoport (the round DIN one) which should (in the other end) have one RCA-plug for Chroma, one for Luma and one for audio.
Once you got this cable you can use the RGB/Analog (80/40) switch on the monitor to choose which video-signal to use.
