And it looks like such a wicked game as well |
That's the reason I finally gave up. The licker heads cost me two lives at least. Most of the time I loose all...
I also managed to get a bit more than 20k once, but ususally I end up with 2-3k... |

is anyone else having problems with the bonus levels? I'm on this green and purple sonufabitch of a bonus round, and every time I run out of time, the game crashes! Anyone else having similar probs? _________________ Kill the man, become the monster |

I am so annoyed I missed out on the 100K here, the bonus rounds are getting tougher. _________________ |

Yeah, I said I quit this competition... but damnit, I'm not good at quitting...
I managed to get to 30k, somehow, until I realized I can archive that much almost every time. I think, I'm pretty goot at avoiding the licker-heads now. Unfortunately I had to witness, that they appear with other enemies too later in the game. At least there are some other enemies now, to refuel the ship...
Nevertheless, after 2 hours of playing my hands are completely cramped and my fingertips hurt, but I got better and better until I finally got a score which is worth posting, at least I hope it is: 77390
I'll give it a few more tries tomorrow... hopefully I'll beat it...
P.S.: I also saw the bonus stages for the first time. In the 1st I got 1810 points, in the 2nd one zero. Never got to a 3rd...
What is your score in the bonus round??? |

Okay, I must admit I was adamant to play this one, but since I entered the compo so late, I figured I may as well try.
Thank you for making me play this one, quite an addictive game. Reminds me a lot of sheep in space actually, anyway, here's my effort:

Damn, i just noticed i forgot to bring my screenshot. My current score is 127k something. Took me a looooong time to get over 100k because i simply couldnt't finish bonus round #4. And you really need the bonus lifes later in the game... (for those who don't know yet: you get a bonus life for each completed bonus round but you cannot have more than 4 lives at a time). I really enjoy playing this game by now but it gets really tough in later waves. Hopefully i will at least be able to see world 5 before the compo round is over. Btw, where exactly are Warp, Core and non-Core areas in world4? I only see lots of mushrooms there, a few big ones seem to indicate where core area is but i am still confused (and havent spent much time there yet), is there more than one core area? |

Core mushrooms are about twice as big as non-core mushrooms. Look under the really big mushrooms, you'll always see a couple of core mushrooms either side of it. The warp gate is a sphere with an upside-down pyramid on top of it. I'd post pictures but it's nearly my bedtime. _________________

That *§!&%" fourth bonus round is driving me nuts! I haven't been as mad on a game since years. For those who haven't seen fourth bonus round (the green one) yet i will describe what awaits: you have to steer your, err... something over a labyrinthic course of 6-8 screens. There are barriers, things that push you into the opposite direction, you name it! Basically you have to zigzag around those obstacles. Did i mention that controls are reversed? Ok, then there are those Iball thingies which come after you. When they touch you you get bounced into the direction they were moving to. The Iballs dont move at random though they rather hunt after you. You can shoot them though and they go a away for a brief time. You can only shoot at them by moving into the opposite direction (remember reversed controls..). In general this is the direction where you do not want to go. When they touch you the time limit gets lowered. The timelimit isnt displayed anywhere, but it is about 30 seconds. If you try to control your something (i think it represents some weird form of Gilby) with more caution by moving slower the Iballs will close in much faster and bounce you around alot more.
I want to see anyone, no i want to see Jeff Minter completing bonus round #4 in the first go in a controlled manner!!!
I had dozens of tries at bonus round 4 but so far only succeeded to complete it in three games - by luck alone. And like i mentioned above i really need the bonus rounds to stay in the game for a longer time :-/ |

Bonus round 4 is pretty hard, its the first time you really need to stop shooting every so often to complete it; but don't stop shooting if the balls are hanging around your head. Shoot them so they go away for a bit, THEN stop. Enjoy the feeling of not twatting around over the screen for a bit. Then get a feel for how much you move from a stationary position if you shoot once; and how much for twice (irritatingly, it isn't twice as far).
The trick to getting through the really narrow gaps on level 4 is stop stop mving just below the gap, and from then on only shoot/move left and right. Shoot the balls away from you for a bit, then position yourself below the gap, stop, and slip through.
If anyone knows a good way to get through that bit on level 5, tho, I'm all ears (YOU know the bit on level 5. Or, you will).
Ever since I learnt about the bonus life thing, my scores are decreasing rapidly as I try and save bonus levels for when I'm on fewer than 4 life. As a result I've got too much to think about again and my brain hurts _________________ Hey, you. Dumbass. Yeah, you in the tank. Cosy in there? |

Yeah i know what i am supposed to do on bonus round #4 but 9 out of 10 times i *bleep* up or get bounced around by those lame Iballs... And yeah round 5 is nice as well. That part you mention is very tricky, i managed to do it two or three times but cannot remember how exactly. |

OK dudes since Matt is in sunny Mexico, who shall be the caretaker MC of the Games Compo. I volunteered in another thread but I am not here over weekends. But on Monday I'll announce the final results, if that's OK with everyone.
and as Matt would say, this round ends | Quote: | | Sunday the 29th of may, 24h00 PM |

Last go from me:
250,460
Twas all going swimmingly and then I made the fatal mistake of being somewhere near level 1.16 and lost 4 all four lives in next to no time: 1 life warping in, 1 life bravely trying to clear it, 1 life trying to get to the warp gate, and 1 life having successfully got THROUGH the gate but forgetting that some bad guys from 1.16 were still hanging around... _________________ Hey, you. Wave 1.16 is nasty. Next ones are very dangerous with overloads but at least you do not die after two collisions. I think i have made it as far as 1.18 and i am determined to kill everything off on the first planet before the compo ends.
Most annoying waves for me are those with enemies who do not leave those rings which you need to switch sides. And then there are several waves which launch blue shots homing in at you if you shoot them. Best tactic for the latter is to warp in with almost full energy from another planet and go for the warp gate immedeatly while you are taking out as many as you can on your way. |

Here is my last effort:
21860
I hope we didn't lose too many players by choosing this game. Only 22 people playing this round and only half of them enjoying it.
I look forward to next round. I really wish Matt had used my idea about a gamelist, so we wouldn't have to wait a week on the boring vote process.
Congratulations, Shteev. I guessed from round 1 that you would win the whole thing this year and it sure doesn't look like I was wrong. |
